Buddies


I want to say a buddy's a friend
But my friends send me round the bend
Or buddies are like family
But they always abandon me
Buddies, are they the ones who lurk?
Nah, I know that type of stalking jerk
It's hard to say just what they are
No one's the same but they're all on par
I guess they love instead of hate
In Australia we just call them "mate"

I turned my head and the wind turned cold
I left a space in my bed for you
I woke and looked at the emptiness
I could not face what I knew was true

I felt the rain and I felt alone
I must have left the window wide
I woke and looked at the crying glass
I knew the storm was just outside

I couldn't wake, but I couldn't sleep
I pulled the covers and clutched my hair
I thought maybe you had stirred, but no
I cried, it was a dream that you'd been there

Ok this is a "legit!" Poem. This is absolutely amazing!! I must know, what was your inspiration?

Thanks Nix, I hoped it would connect with someone.


Inspiration-wise...  Basically I missed Tyga, and no matter how much I suspend my disbelief I go to bed alone.  To emphasise that I chose to start each line with 'I'.


I woke up today and it was raining, but I was too half-asleep to open my curtains to look and all I saw was grey sky.  The rest is poetic license.

The only other details I can ad Nix, is I chose to repeat a word in each stanza's first line just as a rhythmic device and I kept thinking about the word ghost in every line, I just never used it


If anyone would like me to write a poem on a topic just give me one and I'll write something for you.

How about a person (thing) who loved it's life so far but now hates it? I can't think of a plot.

How's this Nix



The shadows of the desert clutched at the man
He staggered on, gritted teeth full of sand
To find the Cave of Wonders he could withstand
A brief discomfort to grasp the Lamp in his hand


His map was expensive but money's just stuff
The power he sought could repay him enough
He was young but ambitious, wiry and tough
His father said get a job this plan is just fluff


He found the cave and he set up his camp
Like a cat he trod the subterranean damp
Ignoring all else he ascended the ramp
Until finally he grasped the Wish Genie's Lamp


He rubbed the lamp with its coating of dust
The genie appeared "MAKE THREE WISHES YOU MUST!"
Abundant power and wealth and his object of lust
And for many years hence he ruled and was just


But as the years passed and his youth slipped away
The things that he'd wanted were hollow and grey
His real happy times were watching the play
Of his children as they laughed through their day


Until a plague struck that spread through the land
And Death claimed his children with his bony hand
The man's spirit was broken and his palace so grand
Just mocked him with memories so at last he did stand


And walked once again through desert wind so strong
But his heart was deaf to the shrill howling song
As he returned to the Genie he had thanked all along
Not for wishes this time but to ask where he went wrong


The Genie appeared and saw the man's eyes
And he took pity and said "MAN, EVERYONE DIES"
"But I wished for the things a young man should prize"
"FOOLISH OLD MAN, YOU SHOULD HAVE WISHED TO BE WISE"

OOH!!... Oohoohoohoo! The ending of the desert journey thing is... ooh it gave me feels lol. It also made me laugh a bit. It's great.


And Tyga, the feels of that poem, heh. Strong feels.

Thank you gentlefurs.  I'm glad you liked it Nix, that's your poem to spec.  I must have been mad to choose that rhyming scheme.


Tim, it is serious and funny and poignant (or so I'd hoped) but remember, you read it as a young man.  Learn the warning it holds or find yourself learning its lesson in old age.


Tyga, I love you and that's what I feel when I wish I could hold you but can't.  It's devastating.  And completely worth every moment I have online with you.
