For novelty purposes, it looks stylish to some and others probably for fun :P

I think it can be pretty stylish. But also I think that maybe some people feel that its a good way to let our furry side out a little bit without yelling at the world about being a furry.

For me it was just for fun and as well bit to indicate my furry status to my surrounding, so somewhat for feeling special I suppose you can say.. nowdays that same reason still exists, but as well it's very much grown into a habit. Yet I do feel quite empty those times I don't have my collar.

I suppose it's both a pride badge as well as the parallel to animals and pets. And for some, it's also connected to submission and S/M I suppose. Owner/pet and all that.

Although you can have yours custom made, like from collarfactory.com or from various FurAffinity users, most just go to the pet store and get them there.

They have a wide variety of styles and colors, they're cheaper in the long run, and the stores usually have tag makers that charge $5 for an engraved dog tag. :)

I got my old collar from the Dollar Store, and it lasted for two years. :)

Yeah I bought mine at a Target and it's lasted more than a year so far, so wherever pet supplies are to be had...

Like TR said, some people get them at stores and others get them custom-made.
People on sites like FA take commissions for collars, like how I make chain mail collars (among other things).

Yep, another collar thread.

Anyways, I got my first and second collar at walmart, the third at a pet store.

I. Have:
2 nylon snap on collars, one black, one blue
1 leather collar, it's like this softe, comfy, 2-ply light blue and white collar.

I update have gotten a nice leather spiky collar though...

I should have..
