Title: Post and Talk about your Collars! And why you wear one
Post by: ArcticSkyWolf on June 06, 2011, 05:58:23 PM
So how were your first moments, slapping that new collar of your on? What did you feel? How did you feel? What did you say? What did your friends/parents/other people say? What did you with it on?

Yeah, questions like that

Here's mine: I felt basically what I expected from a nylon collar, a almost non-noticable feeling on my neck. I basically felt it there and nothing really special occured. Yet again, it was my first time wearing a collar  :P then i slept with it on  -.- . It's still in the confines of my room and house (when no one is around) and I'm still working on getting out there  :o . Gonna plan to bring it to school or something...

Since it was nylon, it had a buckle on it, which was probably the most noticible part i felt. When it get's hot and sweaty, it's more noticable. It was soft and comfortable. I remember it feeling good in the morning after wearing it to sleep  X3 I mean, your sense of touch is more sensitive in the morning because ur body is like waking up n stuff. I mean I wake up at 6a.m then sleep because I'm suppose to wake up at 8 a.m., so the first thing I do when I do wake up (now) is check if my collar is on my neck (for some reason now). then I continue to sleep. But still, it feels different in the morning.

It also has a metal D-Ring on the front which is beside the buckle and it makes this nice noise when it hit's the plastic buckle. FOr some reason, I like the sound of it.

I got a black version of this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Majestic-Pet-14-20-Adjustable-Collar-in-Multiple-Colors-Fits-Most-40-120-lbs-Dogs/15220666 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Majestic-Pet-14-20-Adjustable-Collar-in-Multiple-Colors-Fits-Most-40-120-lbs-Dogs/15220666) btw

And here's a guide to buying a collar:

How to Buy a Collar without looking like a Derp

You can pretty much get collars anywhere. It depends on what you want, if you want an inexpensive snap-on nylon collar, you can get those for like $3 at Wal-Mart, there is where no one will bother you. In Wal-Mart, there's a very limited options, all you get is usually nylon snap-on collars and maybe one leather one with studded jems that is too large for your neck (but perfect if you have a fursuit/head).

In general, I would recommend getting a leather collar with buckles, you can get whatever colour you want with whatever on it, studs, spikes, D-Rings, etc. Or a nylon collar with buckles, if you don't want to kill the leather collar with your sweat in the summer. You can go to pet stuff sites all over the interwebs and fine something you like, or make a custom one from CollarFactory or other people.

Now after you have a general idea of what you want, you should probably measure your neck, let's say your neck size is 16 inches, in general you would want to buy a collar that will fit a 16-inch neck, but collar makers of all kinds mix up the sizes all the time. 16-inches on the label can mean that the tightest this collar can be is 16-inches or the middle hole is 16-inches or the least tight is 16-inches, so just remember to check before you actually buy it, and check the refund/return policy, all it really takes is you to try it on for a few seconds to see if it fits.

The best case senario is that the tightest or the second tightest hole is where it's comfy, where it's the perfect fit and will last you forever, your neck probably won't grow or get larger any time soon and you can always adjust the collar. My most recent collar purchase is a black, leather collar with two D-Rings (one on the center and one near the buckle), it's 16-inches and it fit's fine on the tightest hole but I wear it on the second tightest because it feels better, and I can move it around my neck easier. This collar will probably last me forever.

Now how to actually buy it, just go to any pet shop store, the large ones won't bother you unless you are in front of the collar section for like half an hour, or at the counter when you pay. The smaller shops probably have nothing else to do so they will ask you if they can help you, just say you know what you are looking for and they will pretty much leave you alone. Now you have reached the collar section, and you see a ton of collars ranging from many colours, sizes and so on. Just take your time and remember your criteria: Neck size, leather or nylon, bucked or whatever, thickness, wideness, features, etc. Feel free to pick up the collar and feel the material and ALWAYS inspect the entire collar, if something is broken, missing, etc., get the newer one, etc.

For thickness, it really doesn't matter, a thick one (one that is ticker than a few coins) doesn't really change anything, it's just stiffer (at first). For the wideness, most leather ones are smaller than an inch, my latest collar isn't even an inch, it's like 1.8cm. A wider one would just cover your neck more and keep more of the heat (like a scarf).

Now for features, since it's a dog collar, it will have at least one D-Ring, this is used to put on tags, and of course, leashes  >:3 , if the collar has two it's fine, it's most likely one on the center of the collar and one near the buckle. My latest collar has two, no problem really. These collars won't have any more than 2 but will have at least one (unless it's a fashion one). You can go get yourself a leash if you want, I have one. :P Any other feature is up to you such as bells, studded stuff, spikes, lights, jewels, etc., get whatever you want. You can get tags and other stuff too.

Pretty much after you've chosen your collar (you can get two if you want), just go and pay for it. If the cashier asks you about your dog, just say it's a husky or something, just don't stand there mumbling what your own dogs breed is. Also, don't say a small dog like a weiner dog, it would look like you are buying a collar that's huge. After than, bam, you have your collar, now go home or to a washroom or something and actually try it on to see if it's well fitting. If yes, congrats! You now have a collar! If not, lol whoops, go exchange for a smaller/larger one.

In terms of tightness, it just depends on how you like it, I like it tight-ish on my neck, others like it to look you can just take it off my lifting it off your neck through your head. Just don't make it too tight, if you can put two fingers through the collar (between your neck and the collar) easily without any problems, it's probably fine.

And there you have it, a guide on buying a collar without looking like a total derp made in like minutes!

 I hope this helps you!

Any questions? Feel free to ask them!

Le List of Collars I have to date:

I feel like getting a new collar every season because it seems like I've done that so far.

And I've been sleeping wearing a collar for like a year now, yeah!

Meh... it wasn't that "magical" of an experience or anything, nor was I expecting it to be. I just like wearing a collar. Most people didn't say anything about it, a few people asked if it was a real animal's collar. The first collar I wore had belonged to my favorite cat who died a while ago, so sometimes I'd mention that it reminded me of him. My mom thought it was weird and asked me why I couldn't just wear a regular necklace or something, but for the most part she didn't hassle me too much about it. After I got a second collar that was considerably larger and more noticeable, my mom started asking me if I was turning Gothic (which she thinks is evil, but that's another topic for a different time).

But that's about it. I've worn a collar to school, out shopping, with friends, family, etc. Some people are just curious about it, and the overall response to it has been neutral. I just wear it because I like it; I don't exactly go around shouting "YOU SEE THIS COLLAR? I WEAR IT BECAUSE I'MMA FURRY" or anything. :P

My collar is almost exactly the same. When I first put it on I was just thinkin, "huh, this is cool..." and I've worn it about every other night since then. I just felt comfortable for me, like it was normal for it to be on. I've only worn it out in public only once, and it really didn't seem proper, since its such a lame collar. When I get one that reflects me a lot better and looks better I'll probly wear it more.

My roommate in college didn't really say anything about it. I asked him what he thought, he said, "huh? oh its whatever I guess. I don't really think its a big deal"

My ex's first response was to treat it as a sex toy, which I hated. She would pull me by it when I was wearing it and it made me want to bite her hand off...

lawl i agree, nylon ones are comfortable but too, boring. Leather ones are the epic ones. I wouldn't wear it to school anytime soon because no one really knows that I'ma furry and i know that my friends are gonna drag me accross the field at lunch when i go outside   :S

I've only put on my collar twice really, mostly to try it on to see what it felt like. It was strange, but comfortable. I also wore it to my junior college for a little while to "test the waters" and didn't really get much of a reception good or bad. It went generally unnoticed and I don't like to press my luck, so I don't wear it publicly :P

I was living in a dorm at the time. First wore it when I got it in the mail, with friends, classmates and even a teacher in the same room (though with no attention at me). Teacher was all "you know, I think it's good that some people dare to be different, you know, and I think it's gusty of you, you know?" which, on its own, gave it more attention, laughs and people poking fun of it (in the bad way) than ever before.

All but my friends hate it, but that's because they know me as strange already. It didn't feel very different either.

From the Collar Factory, made of the softest lamb skin. I can sleep with this without any discomfort.

In addition, I have a bell given to me by a friend that he bought on e-bay. He's a real anime freak so he really understood the appeal of having a bell on a collar.
The tag, is of pure silver, made by another friend of mine. It was her very belated birthday gift for me.

And in case you were wondering - yes, the bell rings when I walk.

Collars can get pretty uncomfortable when it's hot though, depending on what your it's made of. Mine are both nylon, and I can't stand wearing them when it's hot. Leather ones might be better, I wouldn't know.

I would imagine leather gets sticky and stuff from sweat in the heat.

i currently only have a nylon collar but i want a new one. when i first put it on i was a bit nervous but since it was the school holidays and i have a large necked jumper i love wearing i set myself a little challenge of wearing it for a few days consecutively and to see if anyone noticed. so far I've worn it out in public at least a dozen times but it's never been visible....(apart from the one time i accidentally forgot i was wearing it and went to school with it on >_<). when i first put it on i felt a little better than i had been (was suffering from boredom induced depression) and when i had it on even in public i tended to act more like myself than i normally do, if that makes sense.

Mines leather and I haven't had any issues with it. I suppose it's true that it get's slightly sticky, but I don't find that very uncomfortable. Most likely because I'm so used to it by now...

Mine doesn't get sticky whatever the weather. Good, quality leather shouldn't get sweaty.

Hmm, never wore a collar before, mostly because i am to scared of what people (my parents) would say or think. T_T
Now i am thinking of getting a plain nylon one and just wearing it when i am not at home. :D

Only what do you say when people ask why you are wearing a coller, "im'a furry? :S"

A well, to the pet shop this weekend i guess....

At the time I was wondering if animals were annoyed by collars.
I then started to wear an old belt around my neck, and it felt pretty comfortable.

After a while, I bought a collar from the internet.
It took me forever to get the pin in the hole, and I felt a bit nervous and pretty excited.

It made me feel more furry.
I only take the collar off when I'm going outside, going to sleep and when I'm taking a shower.
I also attached my Pokéwalker on it.

It's a red leather collar with black leopard prints.

My mom liked it too, fortunately :D

lawl, i was thinking of making a thread asking people on advice on telling people why you wear a collar besides telling them you are a furry. Of course, people would ask what is a furry and you would end up telling a thousand people what a furry is, or you can direct them to the Internet and let them get infected with false info from trolls  :/

One of them (for school that I thought of) would be: "I'm the only one in the school that wears it. I am setting myself away from everyone else and I am suceeding. That is why I wear a collar"

Of course, I am thinking of more excuses but they will eventually get to the point where they start accusing you of being a furry. Then again, it's not only furries that wear collars. Some Goths wear them too.

So far, I've seen absolutely no one in my school wearing a collar, ever. So I might break that by wearing it in September, after I get a list of excuses  XD

That is exactly the problem i see, you need to explain not only that you are part of the furry subculture, but also what a furry is. Else they read the "wrong" imformation on internet.

You might make some other "undercover" furry's to come out, and you start seeing collars everywhere.  :D

I know that there is no way that I am the only furry in the entire school. I mean, it's full of asians and a lot enjoy anime. I'm sure that there might be a few, somewhere. They probably don't show it (or wear a collar) because  they haven't seen anyone do so. Ima plan to wear my collar to school in September, see what happens, see what new friends I make and how I could possible make a difference in my school.

I'm pretty sure it's not against my schools policy or anything.

:/hmmm... I have heard of this, but never have worn a collar (well I have, but it was my old dogs, and I was a kid).

I wear dogtags nonstop, for a reason, but I wear them proud! so I can imagine what a collar feels like (more comfortable than dogtags, I hate waking up with them and the chain fused into my chest or back X3), but they do have a weight to them in more ways than one. So I cannot wear a collar in the regular since it goes against regs, but I would like to when I can.

To be honest, I know my friends and family, and they would not approve (in-fact I would lose some friends no doubt). But I think I'll keep myself a collar either way (wearing it in public... lets take this one step at a time). It will attract attention (it will on me, trust me), and it will be annoying explaining furries to everyone, but I gotta have pride! plus I think it will make two of my friends wear thier collars with pride (I'm pretty sure I know some closet furries). So off to get a collar! I'll be sure to tell you what it feels like :P

I would imagine how weird it is to wear a collar to school. I mean, it was pretty weird that I brought my own mouse to school in October. For 2 weeks, my classmates were looking at me and laughing at me but it ended and it was a normal thing after 3 weeks. I still bring my mouse to school, and that's the only place I bring it too. I was a bit nervous when I popped out the mouse but at the end, everyone knows and then they really don't care.

I think for the mouse it's okay because I had a pretty solid reason: The School's mice suck (it does, it's these crappy old Dell mice) and I enjoy using my mouse. I'm guessing for wearing a collar, people are going to bug me for a while, then it's going to be a normal thing. But yet again, people will see my collar at school for 6 hours while for the mouse, it's only 1-2 hours... :|

I'm still gonna try to wear it to school in September. X3

Cool. :P

It took some time getting used to it, but now I like it a lot. Sadly, I don't have one anymore...

Ima wear my collar.  XP I'm pretty much ready for a rain of questions.  X3

It has lasted him almost three years, I think he'll be just fine.

I knew I wanted my collar as soon as I saw it in the store and it wasn't insanely priced, so it was perfect.
When I put in on for the first time, I had to get used to something wrapped that close around my neck but I quickly got used to it. I love it.
My mom doesn't really say anything about it but I know she doesn't really care for it, but she knows that it's my decision to wear it so she let's me be. My dad always makes a comment when he sees Shinzuu and/or me wearing our collars, or he just makes a face like "Seriously?" We wore ours on our trip to Niagara Falls, ON last week and at one point he said to Shinzuu and I (after him giving a look and me saying something to the affect of "Don't even say it"), "I'm not saying anything. I just don't understand why you'd want to wear something that people will make fun of you for." And I went into this whole speech about how people do things that are 'different' all the time that people make fun of them for, not just us, and that others just have to deal with it because it's something we like no matter what anyone else thinks. He was just like, "I know..." and I was like, "Not really." and he didn't really say anything else after that.
I can't stand wearing mine when it's hot unless I loosen it up 'cause it will rub against my neck and sweat will get stuck under it and make my neck all gross.
I have no problem wearing mine in public, but it's not like a regular dog collar, it's small and cute, so it could be passed off as a normal accessory to some people.

This is mine. (Yes, I had short hair when this picture was taken. It was two years ago, at a zoo.)

You put it on like a collar and some regular collars look like that, so I say it counts.

My first experiance with my collar was last weekend, june 10, 11 and 12th. I went camping and I had two friends going with me so I wanted to see what they though of it, seeing as none of my friends know I'm a furry. I wore the collar, and they saw it. I know they did. Surprisingly, they didn't comment on it or ask me about it like I thought they would. Kinda gave me confidence in wearing my collar I guess you could say.

I liked it personally, it felt rather comfortable.  The really cool thing is that I made mine, and at first my parents were all like WAAAAAAAAAAAA???  But it's all good now.  I've got some tags for it, but I can't normally wear it, my parents will definitely freak out on me XD

I really wish I could post some pics of it, but i can't get it inserted properly.

This week end, I went to a metal open 2 day concert and my friend had this collar with stud (as she is a bit gothic) and she gave it to me to wear it all week end long... And I've never felt so good in my life  :o I felt like the missing part of my fursona was complete... But unfortunately, I had to give it back to her plus anything with studs was not allowed on the concert site  :'( .. Damn security priving me from finally be the dog I always wanted to be...

I got mine from Petco. It was pretty cool wearing it, it just felt right in some weird way. When my mom discovered it in my laptop bag later, I told her I'd got it for our dog awhile back and forgot about it. So now our dog, "Pup", is wearing my collar.  T_T

When I did have my collar, I LOVED IT, It was really a cat collar I stole at a store when I lived in my past state. My ex mate got my a tag when "Trinity" on it and sadly, I left it in my other state. (I moved) But I felt proud when I wore it and was very happy ^_^

Okay, got a collar this weekend. Just a simple nylon one, but i am surprised it doesn't cause any discomfort. (My watch annoys me more sometimes).

I wore it all weekend, just not in the living room, cause i dont want a confrontation with my family, and not at work since "strange" accesory's are not be allowed.
My fiends didn,t even seem to notice it was an actual collar. (Not so happy face has nothing to de with collar, just that i punctured two tires today and i only had one spare tire  T_T. Spend an hour changing and glueing tires in the poring rain )

Its a Canon 7D with a battery grip, so it sorta looks like a 1D.
I work as a software development engineer (plc, robotics, and embeddded systems), so a lot of direct contact with clients.

At my pet store, the only thing you can actually pet are either the cats or some birds and bunnies. The dogs have a glass window in the way  >:( . Now for collars, leather ones like those are pretty cool but expensive. But it is better than buying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3...  :3

When I first wore a collar it was as a black cat for a parade :) My bestie and I were both dressed up so I didn't feel out of place or anything. It was fun and I personally liked it but then I really like close fitting necklaces...so it was kinda natural. I don't have a collar now :( but I do have a tag that I put my cat's name on and wear on a chain with my St. John's medallion.

when i got mine it was after winter brake. a group of my friends was wearing them and i thought they were cool. so after we came back i got mine. shortly after we started getting a lot of negative atention. one time a girl that i like sorta said "i like your collar i kinda want one" well she never did talk to me after that. any way the princable of the school tried to shut us down cuz it was a disruption of the learning process. well we kept them until a girl in our class who thinks that the wold revolves around her convinced two of the people in our group that they were stupid and ugly there was only 3 of us left then it died down to two of us. then during the parent teacher confrences the teacher told my dad and he asked me if it was a goth or s&m thing and i said no to eather one. so after that it was over. i still wear mine when i go to bed and during the summer cuz my dad isnt home. my little older brother made fun of me saying whats next gonna start getting pulled around on a leash. my response was yes yes i will. and so i did my sister pulled me around on a leash the next day.

my collar is just a standered nylon collar from dollar general. the first one was a dark brown. then i got a black one. afterwards i got a blue. now i have a dark green one that is really thick and big. when i first put it on i felt differnet and unique. i guess that was good. over all i felt good about it. during lunch a friend of my britney would grab the D irng on it and pull on it. i would sack her hand and tell her to stop. i got my black ones cuz i was giving to others who didnt want them but they were itchy so i got a blue one. then i lost my brown one. and i just got paid so i got a green one that i like. i know it is a long stroy so i will let you continue reading this thread so with out further adue...http://http://www.flickr.com/photos/64719375@N02/?saved=1 these are pictures of me and my collar please PLEASE PLEASE LOOK AT THEM!! ^_^

Im scared of that to... but it really doesn't distrupt anything since girls in my school wear those really short shorts and stuff like that. And it's not THAT noticable.

Lol well those are the two most common conclusions people put whenever someone wears a collar, only few think that it's furry  T_T

Yep I feel the same as you Artic >< ... I've always felt something was missing since I became a furry and I soon realized it was a collar... I'm wearing one not because of the furry proudness... But because I want to feel complete, feel that my husky soul is making one with me by wearing the collar... That's how theologicly I can get with wearing a collar...

there is always something to wear on every body part like a hat on our head or a shirt or whatever. for the neck, it's either scarfs, necklaces and then it's collars. it's still something you can wear. if you wanted to.

Like how to put it on, the end part goes throught the D-ring first, then through the buckle?

I think it can be pretty stylish. But also I think that maybe some people feel that its a good way to let our furry side out a little bit without yelling at the world about being a furry.

For me it was just for fun and as well bit to indicate my furry status to my surrounding, so somewhat for feeling special I suppose you can say.. nowdays that same reason still exists, but as well it's very much grown into a habit. Yet I do feel quite empty those times I don't have my collar.

I suppose it's both a pride badge as well as the parallel to animals and pets. And for some, it's also connected to submission and S/M I suppose. Owner/pet and all that.

Although you can have yours custom made, like from collarfactory.com or from various FurAffinity users, most just go to the pet store and get them there.

They have a wide variety of styles and colors, they're cheaper in the long run, and the stores usually have tag makers that charge $5 for an engraved dog tag. :)

I got my old collar from the Dollar Store, and it lasted for two years. :)

Like TR said, some people get them at stores and others get them custom-made.
People on sites like FA take commissions for collars, like how I make chain mail collars (among other things).

I wear a collar, its nothing special just a normal dog collar ^^; but I wear it for two reason... First being I just like to wear collars the other reason is because I don't like people touching my neck at all (Implanted my fist in someones face last time for poking me in the neck (Though I don't mean to its a natural reflex ^^; )) so its offers limited protection to my neck XDDD

I've chilled at coffee shops for hours (sometimes without buying anything) using their WiFi and such. They usually dont kick anyone out. I end up buying something, especially whenever fresh baked cookies are afoot!

i wear mine to sleep every night, if i dont i really dont get much sleep..then its just a matter of puting my jacket on over it so my parents dont see and then i go to school! so the only time i have to take it off is in 2nd hour, and at 5 when my parents get home...though i did wear it in front of my dad the other day and he told me to take it off and then asked if i was goth or something then he treated it like a big joke...

I'm planning on getting a choke collar... The one I presently have is too big and it's in leather... And since I'm a body radiator, I realized soon enough that my neck irritates me when I where it... And besides, I think a choke collar fits my personnality way more than the one I have right now... Gonna keep that one for my future husky ^-^

I was like "why not?"

She said it was gay for a second. I was like HOW?? WTF???

So Ive givin it some thought, and decided to try a collar...  I just kinda feel awkward... At first I felt kinda goth, but after staring at the mirror for 25 minutes it kinda feels good...  But is this something you like right away... Or do u just kinda grow into it???
Title: Re: Collars...?

some people love it instantly, some grow into it. Me, I rarely wear mine anymore but I keep it around. Just don't choke yourself with it. ;3
Title: Re: Collars...?

What many people seem to believe is that the furry community is a kind of... cult or religion, etc. It is not by a long shot. I personally feel that even furries seem to OVERRATE the fur fandom.

It is simply some people that like animals and animals with human like qualities. That's why fursuiting, wearing collars, roleplaying and everything else is optional and highly individual.

Quote
But is this something you like right away...
Collars are often large and tight around your neck and most people aren't used to this type of accessory right away. It's the same with bow-ties and chocker jewellery. Are you used to the loss of movement and the tightness around your neck? Are you sensitive to this kind of thing?
Collars are also associated by most people with dogs (and pets) and leashes. Submission and even captivity. What you read into these things, whether you find them positive or negative, is up to you.

Quote
Or do u just kinda grow into it???
Some quickly adapt to changes and some take time. Again; it's all about what you feel both mentally and physically.

And that's without even adding the furry part in wearing said collar. It might give you a certain pride or make you feel closer to your fursona or animal self.
Or it may also make you feel a bit uncomfortable, knowing that people might spot it and mock you. Are you ready to be confronted or would you rather hide that you simply have an interest in anthropomorphic animals, an interest so highly overrated and blown out of proportion by the general public (and furries alike)?

My point is that it's not a big deal unless you make it so for one or more reasons. Enjoy your collar.  :)

Yeah I spent another hour or so while I was still home alone... Kinda like now, I just hope I don't become "attached" to it... Even my own parents and close friends I keep stuff hidden from them...

Title: Re: Your first moment with your collar?
Post by: Mikhail Zolotov on February 08, 2012, 05:40:06 AM
My ex's first response was to treat it as a sex toy, which I hated. She would pull me by it when I was wearing it and it made me want to bite her hand off...

My first 'true' experience with a collar was just two weeks ago at an Anime convention. I rediscovered that I was, in fact, a furry and decided to drop my cosplay and buy ears, a tail, a collar, and furry leg-warmers (which I now wear around the house almost every day). Anway, I enjoyed the collar and loved how the big metal ring jingled when I walked; almost like a bell. It's a black leather collar btw.

In regards to the person I'm quoting, I feel just the opposite. I loved when random people would pull me around by the ring or attach a make-shift leash and tug on it seeing if I'd actually follow. (To explain, I was walking around with a sign that said "Lost Pet") I had people adopting me left and right and I loved the attention. I wore the ears and collar all the way home in car while I drove, too. My parents just laughed when I walked in, but I didn't care. I was soo super happy :]

I hadn't thought of wearing it in 'normal' public so I may try that soon (as soon as I find an outfit to match the collar). ;]

Would like to know if it suits me :3
Would choose a black one with white seams on it, since I prefer black wear and put my bell on it. Bought the bell on a christmas market, but didn't do anything with it
Think I wouldnt wear it when my family is around. Bet my mother would say it looks stupid or something like that ¬.¬
But my friends would be ok with, since they all are open minded :3
I wonder what my boyfriend would say..

I finally found the prefect collar for me, but I'll have to wait for my next paycheck to come in. I have plenty of money now, but I've already spent a lot on myself and would feel more comfortable waiting.

I get sooo many different reactions about wearing my collar, but i just sit back and laugh and tell people i'm a beast lol. Plus i have people that walk me ( and some who want to) everyday because, i have a leash, and then i have a chain leash.

I do that at Anime conventions :D

Got my new collar today and put it on before I went to see my mates; got some odd comments, including: "Is that a belt round your neck?"... but all in all nothing too bad. It felt slightly tighter than I expected but still good, was a bugger to put on however; it's black nylon, piccy! And then this annoying person I know came up to me, asked if I was wearing a dog collar, then announced it to the whole room; a chorus of sniggers ensued.

I've got about a dozen collars.....though I prefer my  nylon ones...as they're generally cheaper and are available in more colors  and styles and they're breathable...andyou can get them embroidered

I've also got a chainmaille collar...which is nice..purely decorative though....I wouldn't advise pulling to hard on them.

I usually wear my pink nylon one with a pink paw tag on it with my fur name engraved on to it, it's got a nickel/silver plated buckle on it too..most nylon ones have a plastic buckle on them....this one has a metal  belt style buckle. It's harder to et on but I think it looks better then the cheap plastic buckles

Strangely... Whenever I don't have my chocker on (and the only time I get it off is when I take my shower), especially if I forget to put it on after my shower, and IF I do realise that I am not wearing it, I get a panick attack =/

Next week I am going to go into Petsmart wearing my tail and buy myself a collar. I'm sure I will get weird looks, but who cares. :D

Heh! I got my chocker at a petsmart and I was trying multiple chockers/Collars and the people that saw me were all like "O.o" and my boyfriend and I were laughing so much at them for not understanding x3

I wear my colalr to meets and cons only...so after the meet/con it feels weird not having it on....I feel naked without it....same with my tail...after I take it off I get that "ghost" tail feeling...

I'd wear my collar everyday....though knowing my luck in my town I'd get shot for it.

Same here. I went to alton towers with some mates, and they made me promise not to wear my collar; I didn't and immediately regretted it; as we arrived I kind of went into panic mode, which wasn't helped by the extreme roller-coaster I picked as my first. When I got off, I staggered off it in tears, and next thing I know, I am surrounded by a ring of my mates bent over me with concern in their faces; apparently I hyperventilated until I fainted. A nearby attendant stated that that was the first time he had seen it happen in all his years of working there; he went on to say that he had seen very little as extreme, even for a newbie.

Thus, I believe that the same thing as you, tallice, has set in for me; and far more rapidly than I expected.

Sorry if the anecdote was a little off-topic.

I really want to wear my collar with people around, but I'm scared of how they'll react. I want to show my parents too, so I can wear it around the house without hiding in my room. My parents may already know about my collar, 'cuz sometimes I sleep with it on, and they wake me up in the morning, so yeah. And I told two of my friends one summer, and they didn't care. But I don't trust my class, or how random people will react. :/ What to do, what to do...
Title: Re: Post and Talk about your Collars! And why you wear one

Try and tell your parents if they have seen you in it before they probobly dont care about you wearing a collar (wish my parnets did not care about it)

now as for your school reacting Im not so sure they can be so understanding because people are ignorent as **censor** and if your different they will chew you up and make your life hell (that is my own personal experience maybe you will have a different one)

your school finding out is a big step and you should really think it over if you are going to go through with it. I thought on it for a good 2 or 3 months before I stoped caring about what people think and I wanted to do what made me happy.

hope this helps

on another note i just got a awesome comfy black leather collar with spikes in it.

Lol, I slept with my collar on, and when my mom woke me up in the morning, she asked me why I was wearing a collar. She didn't care really, and just called me silly. XD When we got into the car to go to school, she poked fun at me and told me she had a leash in the back of the car. XD I'm glad my mom doesn't really care. <3

Been kind of interested in getting a collar recently, though, I'm a bit concerned of a couple of things.

Obviously the publics view of collars, the inability to hide collars, but mainly becoming "addicted" to a collar, if it really does end up like what most people feel, then I'd probably wear the collar all the time and feel really good about it, but that leaves significant ramifications in my real life.

Might just wait until I go into uni, and wear it at uni and stuff, people don't know me so might be fun :3
Title: Re: Post and Talk about your Collars! And why you wear one
Post by: Lokyar Brightmane on April 26, 2012, 01:35:15 PM
The public view of collars, I have found, is not to scream "AAAHH FURRIES, LOCK AWAY YOUR DOGS AND CATS!", you get a couple odd glances, but from our conversations, I am sure you are not too unused to them, especially around pencils. :P
Hiding collars is easier than I have implied, they may be ridiculously hard to hide round your neck, but you can wear it round your arm or something to gain confidence. Try above the elbow, worked for me.
As for the addiction, probably a strong word. It is nothing like a drug or smoking or something like that. I find mine to be more of a safety blanket type thing; it makes me feel better in myself when I have it on, but I am not too averse to not having it. I don't like being without it, but I could bin it and feel as if I was wearing it when I have adjusted back in a few days; at least in an emotional sense, not tactile. When I do forget to put it back on after a shower, I feel a bit unusual, not quite as happy, but as I say, I could go without it, just would rather not.

As for uni, might be a good idea, but people won't mind too much anyway, or so I experienced. I was lucky by the sound of it, but I'm sure most people wouldn't give a flying fig to be honest. As I said to you, they don't need to know about furryism if you think they will react adversely. There are other explanations, E.G. the one people make up about me, which annoys me slightly, but I CBA to dispute: Goth. There are many more, just try and find one you don't mind as a backup if you feel unready to come out all the way about it.

TL;DR, There are ways around it. All of it. Just find the way that is right for you.

What I've learned from my past month or so wearing mine everywhere is that
1. The "addicted" feeling is actually quite nice, makes me feel safe
2. I get to poke fun at people who stare too long (my eyes are up here!)
3. Most of all it's a good conversation start- plenty of people who would normally care less are actually more interested to talk to someone who stands out.

That's just my views out there for anyone who ponders the good side to the collar ;)

I live in a lovely back of the woods piece of (Insert multiple imaginary very descriptive but prohibited language here) Redneck infested bible belt town, were the social highlight is going to walmart which isn't a joke people really go to walmart ... just to hang out. So you imagine how completely narrow minded the population is here, and they all think its either something demonic, or sexual. I was even banned from wearing it at school when I was there because "It promoted the chocking game" So yes >.> Thats why I don't wear it around other people because its annoying all the comments >.>

I'm thinking about it, and I don't think I want one. But I'm still not sure.

My girlfriend told me that she hates dog collars because they give the impression that you're owned by someone and she doesn't like that. She also said they're way too trendy, and to a point I agree with her.

However, I think it varies from furson to furson, and if you're just here for the roleplay and art then so be it! If wear a collar to feel more in touch with your furry self, fine! To each their own.

Since I'm a wild animal, I don't like the idea of wearing a collar at the risk of feeling "chained down." But I do like to think of myself as a family member and companion, and I'd like to wear one, or just have one..I dunno. I think I need more time to think.

Post by: Fawkes on May 24, 2012, 02:33:09 PM
Well, maybe I'll think about it. Just wear one and see how I feel...or try on my dog's collar. I think of it like the Fox and the Hound, where the fox winds up getting a collar until the heartbreaking scene where he's let go.

I'd be careful about using a dogs collar
I used my dogs collar and it was very itchy and dirty and didn't leave a good impression at all.
Now that I have my own collar it's clean and much nicer :D

Also, in other news, my partner is now an otherkin! Hopefully I can persuade her to join Furry Forums  ^_^

It really depends, both leather and nylon can be itchy, get sticky, etc. Leather just looks cooler, nylons just floopy. You can try out your dogs collar, no problem.

You should tape measure your neck,
I didn't have a tape measure at the time so I just got a piece of string and cut it, then measured it.

Its not that its because, I like wider collars, the ones that are about 3/4th inch wide, but they don't have any that are my size because all the ones that fit my neck are about 1/4th-1/2 inch wide >.>

The Collar Factory (http://collarfactory.com/welcome) is rather affordable and lets you make your own collar completely from scratch. Size, width, colour, material, hooks, studs, etc. It's all up to you.
That's where I got mine.

(http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/3899/collaru.th.jpg) (http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/3899/collaru.jpg)
Made of the softest lamb skin.

Yes.

If you go to the big ones, usually they don't bother you. But if you are the only one in a smaller shop, they will ask you. Just say you have a husky or whatever, and you are looking for a collar for this size. And then tell them that you know what to look for. After than, choose which collar you want.

Basically what I did.

And yeah, measure your neck first. You don't want one that's too big (although it's fine), or too small (choke!).

If your neck is like 15 inches, get a collar that's 16 inches, it will fit you now and later while you grow.

And I like wide collars too :P

Actually I got an adjustable collar, so I can make it tighter or looser if I want XD
It's been very helpful, sometimes you don't want it hanging off your neck, other times you just want some freedom XD
Title: Re: Post and Talk about your Collars! And why you wear one

Mines adjustable as well but the max tightness is just a little loose on my neck but I don't want the next size down, because its so tiny of a collar ... I like big collars ...

I have two adjustable nylon ones, the tightest it can be is kinda loose, my two leather ones are pretty much fine.

mine is at its biggest, loose enough so that on hot days my sweat does not eat the leather ( it will if its tight, trust me!!! :| ) and it is way too small on the shortest hole, but if i keep it around the middle it is nice and comfy!!! ^_^

So I got another collar recently, it's thick black leather with white-ish stitching on the side, with two D-Rings (for all the right reasons  :3 ) and it fits my neck fine. It looks extra awesome when I wear my black spikey leather collar above it on my neck!

So basically I just try to get a new collar every season  ^_^

But im a first time shopper to something like this and I have no idea what I like or if their are more types out there that you guys have not talked about.
Anyone want to give me some advice? :S

Title: Re: Post and Talk about your Collars! And why you wear one

This is what I did :P
First I did a google search on different types of collars, primarily they come in either nylon or leather but can come with a whole RANGE of materials :P
Then when you have had a search around and have an idea on what collar you want, you can begin to look for pet shops near you (or you can buy it online).
When you are ready to go, use a tape measure (or a piece of string) to measure your neck so you can get an idea of what collar will fit you.
Then go to the shop, look around for dog collars, ask a clerk for a collar of your size if you need it (pretend you're buying a collar for your dog of course)
Collars can range from an easy $5 to $40 depending on what collar you want, my nylon collar costs $15. Leather tend to be more expensive though, but also more comfortable.
I also suggest buying an adjustable collar so if it doesn't fit you at first you can tighten/loosen it :P

Remember, buying a collar isn't a full time commitment, it's not that much money so if you buy one you don't have to wear it if you don't like it  ^_^
Hope that helps :D

But im a first time shopper to something like this and I have no idea what I like or if their are more types out there that you guys have not talked about.

Now for features, since it's a dog collar, it will have at least one D-Ring, this is used to put on tags, and of course, leashes  (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/Smileys/Wolf/evil.gif) , if the collar has two it's fine, it's most likely one on the center of the collar and one near the buckle. My latest collar has two, no problem really. These collars won't have any more than 2 but will have at least one (unless it's a fashion one). You can go get yourself a leash if you want, I have one. (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/Smileys/Wolf/tongue.gif) Any other feature is up to you such as bells, studded stuff, spikes, lights, jewels, etc., get whatever you want.

And yeah what anoni said, you don't have to wear your collar all the time, I wear it whenever I can/want either way!

Ren's Smartly Stupid Guild to Buying a Collar

 What you need:
  ===Option 1: Online===

Step one: Find a collar you like online

Step two: Find out how large your neck is

Step three: Find the appropriate sized collar for the style you like

 Step four: Buy said collar...

Optional: To make this more interesting, or original, when the collar comes in the mail quickly throw on a pair of tattered or holy cloths, and make it look as though you are foaming from the mouth this can be obtained by multiple things or ways, easiest being tooth past, or contracting rabies... though since rabies has been completely eradicated in some countries be creative, also warning rabies is considered a terminal illness after a day of contracting it, thus you may want to stray away from contracting it, if at all possible.

 ===Option 2: Offline===

If you have trouble with any of the above steps, visit a pet store and ask the staff for help navigating their website, or if you feel you can handle this without help, go straight to the collar department. Repeat steps one through three... however do to any strange looks you may and probably will get. Do not deter, embrace your calling and proudly walk up to the checkout counter after finding the collar you selected and buy the collar of your dreams. Any religious remarks or sexual remarks that may or may not be made to you should be either ignored, or met with force ... say a blunt object. But remember this is most likely illegal in your country so be sure that beating people with blunt objects is allowed in your homestead. If its not legal, please calmly ignore them, state any bible verses you know in old English, or inform them that you will get a restraining order placed on them if they continue.

YES! I just got my first collar! My dog and I walked down to the pet store, and I got a collar. I'll post pictures  ^_^

Apperantly they won't post. I'm going to change my avatar into my tags though ^_^ And they're on my DeviantArt, so the thingy underneath my profile on the side thing will take you straight there.

Someone just came to the door and I panicked and took it off  o.O

I feel so comfortable in it..so natural. I think I scared my girlfriend with it because I asked if I could put her name on the back and her phone number, and she said it was too possessive..I feel bad now *whines and sits in the corner* I didn't mean to offend her or anything  :$

But yeah. It feels pretty comfortable, not sure what it's made of. When I went to go get my collar, it really helped to have my dog with me, and I told the lady that I had another dog who was on vacation with a 15" neck. So! I apperantly have a fictional mutt who is eight years old..I felt like such a good liar. It also fits with my fursona.

It feels so weird posting pictures of myself in human form..

My collar is going to be just as sexy as the one in my avatar. You should get one like it tooooooooo, Zaelis~ XP

And yes, I recently have gotten into the idea of obtaining a collar. Though it's a mix of my furry side and my Goth and my Punk side; seeing as I'm getting cuffs as well. But the collar itself always has felt like a secure item... Something about it, even though I know it doesn't protect me from too much, really, makes me feel safer and less exposed. I don't have issues without one, but it just adds that sensation of security.

It feels..natural. Comforting. And yeah, I guess safe. I feel like I belong. I wore it to work the past couple days, and I had people compliment it. Mostly, they asked why I was wearing a dog collar, and I just told them it was to feel closer to my dogs, and especially Charlie, my old dog that died in my fathers care (so a drug house.) He was hit by a car. Then, my dog Jorja, my current black lab was born and rescued from a drug house, and I like to think they have the same soul that protected me  ^_^ It makes a good story. But that's probably why I associate safety with it too.

I have been wearing a collar on my wrist for the last 6 years. Everyone assumes that since I work with animals I wear it. The truth is it belonged to my cat I had that was hit was hit by a car and died. It started off as just me missing him and then became a comfort thing. I wear it at the exact size he did. I always do and always will.

I do plan on getting a collar for myself at some point but for now Vader's collar is suiting.

protest, if it is not harmful in any way (no large metal pieces) then it is the same as a belt, hell even if it has metal. i got suspended 4 times for refusal to remove my collar, but i wore it anyway and they gave up, it also added the bonus that they saw my stubbornness and let me wear my tail on graduation.

yessir, my stubbornness has gotten me a long way, for those of you who have not told your parents about wanting to wear a collar, or tell them that you wear a collar, or are hiding that from them, don't worry about it, i live in one of the least socially accepting parts of the country, and my mom was just fine with it, hell she supported it, finding me an alternative collar when they would not let me wear my spiked leather one. the worst they can do is say no. (that's when you do it behind their back)

Wow. You're so lucky that you have a mother who allows you to wear a collar. I bought my own collar without my mother ever knowing. Until on a Saturday while cleaning up the house, she came back from Walmart and probably saw me wearing it. I say "probably" cause she said absolutely nothing about it. That was until last week when I was on my bed playing Pokemon and she asked what's that around my neck. I told her what it was and she ordered  me to take it off or she'll put a scissors in it ._.

I don't know if she forgot that I she saw it already or she didn't see it cause of the direction the light was hitting me and of my light brown skin

well tell her that that isn't fair to you, after all you paid for it didn't you?

then when she uses the "life isn't fair" line, tell her "that that is true, but shouldn't we all try to make things as fair as possible?" then point out how she hates the unfairness of the laws in place in this country, use taxes as an example

Tried something similar to that and nearly got slapped, but I evaded it.

Trying to convince my mom to allow me to wear my collar, would be like trying to walk down on those moving escalators that are ment to go up. And if you try to run down, there's a chance that you night fall.

I can not image what it would be like to have a parent who didn't approve. I mean I wear a tail when I go out. Not to work or anything but if I am just running errands I do. My mom thinks it's a laugh. Doesn't approve but doesn't not approve. My mom has never been one to tell me (and my siblings) to or not to do something. She always left it up to us.

I am sure I will get a weird look leaving the house with a collar on but that's as far as it goes. the best thing I can say is just don't wear it around them. What they don't know won't kill them right? I am just guessing since I don't have any experience in that matter.

my grandma bought me this studded collar/choker. I wear a lot. mostly when I wear black clothes and darker outfits. (Which is most of the time lol) so yeah. and when I put it on it feels fine. after about 9 hours of straight wear it does get a bit itchy, don't know why exactly, but yeah. XD

Ah, so they see it as a bad thing? 1. Ask them why, 2.restate and downplay, and 3. Downplay its prevalence example-
Parent(p)
Fur(f)

P- why do you even WANT to wear the thing?
F-why not? Why do you not want me to? (This is step one)
P- BECAUSE IT IS NOT NORMAL!!
F- so you are worried that I won't fit in?(step 2 part A) mom, I'm doing this so I won't fit in, I don't want to be the same as everyone else, I want to stand out and apart, I want to be my own person and not have conformity turn me into something I'm not, parents are supposed to encourage their children to be themselves and not become something to fit in, if I let conformity tell me what to be, then I'm not being myself, I'm being normal, this isn't even about this, it is about me making my decisions, if we lived in newyork it would be "normal" to be in a gang, mom, I wan't to stand apart (step 2 part B , sorry fire got lit)
P- what about what everyone will think?
F- I probably won't even do this for long, the school counselor said it was a phase or something like that.

I wore my leather collar a couple times at school. I got odd looks, but nothing unexpected. I have friends in just about every group (except the jocks, though, I kinda am one) most assumed I was into domination and wore it as a trophy, teachers didn't care really, friends pulled me around (I liked it) I also wore it with my werewolf costume on Halloween and my friend was a witch. I was her pet after she cursed me lol and I also attached a leash for her to use. Most thought it was cool. Jocks ofc call me a dog (I take it as a compliment though)

boo to your mom, if she really cares she should see that you are happy, therefore she should be happy to. She probably doesnt want yo see you get made fun of basically is her worry and why she disapproves. But other than that, if you let her know that what other people say dont bother you, she should be happy as long as you are.

Post by: Furpaws on February 11, 2013, 08:00:50 PM
Alright so I went out today & got myself a collar :3 I only went to the store to look but they had a nice chunky red nylon collar & not too expensive.

its still my first couple hours with but heres what I think so far ^^

the good- I love the way it looks on me, its exactly what my fursona wears & it looks so cool and furry :3
wearing it feels great its like stepping into another furry world :3 I know it sounds silly but I really feel more furry wearing it. I havent even worn it outside yet & I'm looking forward to trying it ^^

the bad- its crazy uncomfortable! Bayzan said they are uncomfortable tho I wasnt expecting it this bad. I already tried adjusting the collar, if its lose enough to get my fingers between the collar & my neck its still really uncomfortable. its scratchy & itchy & it feels like I'm being choked even tho its really lose :S
if I tighten it so its up against my neck then its not so scratchy but the choking feeling gets alot worse & it still itches.

I dont think its really choking me its just how it feels cause I can still breathe & its lose enough to get my fingers between the collar and my neck easy. Its cause my necks so sensitive I dont even like wearing clothes with collars cause it bothers my neck.
shoulda figured. I'm not used to wearing anything round my neck not even clothes & a nylon collar is a lot less comfortable than clothes :/

how do you collar wearing furries deal with it? should I just kinda force myself to wear it so I get used to it? :S I really want to be able to wear this collar ^^

the choking feeling is all about finding the exact right size collar for you. Too loose, and it slides around, too tight and it chokes you. I like to leave room for my throat if I need to yawn or swallow. It's also about finding the right material. My collar is made of canvas and it's actually pretty comfortable once you get used to it, but you will find that some collars itch a lot. If you want, you can change to leather since it's a much smoother material. Just fiddle around till you find what you like. :3

thanks KangaDrake :3 mines adjustable I can make it lose enough that it slides around or too tight but I cant find anywhere in the middle where its comfortable :/
I'm gonna try and keep it on to get used to it. its choking a bit but if I loosen it it slides around and I hate that :S
is it easy to get used to wearing it, how long does it take?

what I did was to find the exact right adjustment and then I punched an extra hole in and it fit great. Depending on the material you'll get used to it at varying speeds.

It kind of seems kind of odd to me wearing a collar when implied as wolf character/theriotype.
(I don't wear anything furry related, anyway, if I did my parents would probably freak or something)
Closest thing you'll see around my neck to a collar is a necklace.
But I'm not owned by anyone, either so nope.

I'm curious, though, as to decisions to those with non-domestic fursonas/theriotypes choose to wear collars? Or are they by role, owned? Fashion in their chara's universe, may be?

A collar is widely known within the furry community as an icon. It is perhaps even more iconic than the wolf paw, animal ears or tail that some wear as an accessory. It's highly visible; close to one's face, it's rarely covered by clothing and not easily hidden.*

I think it has a lot more to do with the symbolism and feeling of comfort and belonging rather than wanting to associate themselves with their fursona. *= I've even heard of people wearing it around their wrists, on their clothes or wearing a scarf/turtleneck to hide the collar so only they know about it. Making it more of a personal matter rather than a statement.

Not to mention the S/M side of it, the "pet/owner" side of it, the "mate" side of it and so on. It can even serve as a secret sign to other furries that spot it, saying "I'm a furry too, let's talk once we're on in danger of being bullied over it."

That said, I also own a collar that is the same colour as my fursona (don't trust the picture), hand made and designed by me. Only, I rarely wear it any longer. I haven't for over a year. I just don't have a reason to.

I don't wear it any more. Also, no snow leopard with a bit of self respect would let anyone know if you're sneaking up on them. You just simply grab the bell with one hand, and mute it.

Well, i always like to talk to people (and shock them a little bit). What better way then to wear a collar... Its furry related and it starts a lot of (mostly pleasant) conversations with random people. So for me its just a piece of clothing and conversation starter.... And my mate loves to grab my collar and drag me around by it (which i hate) :)

Just got my first collar today. I was by a Petsmart and though "Eh, why not?" I stopped in, walked to the collar section and picked out a brown leather collar. The edges are a bit sharp, but I suppose with use, and a good shining, they'll wear down.

I don't wear it as a sign of submission, or domestication.  I wear it mostly to mark myself as a furry, and I think it looks pretty good, kinda fashionable.
My parents haven't seen it yet but I don't think they'd care, but they'll probably question it. I might just tell them the truth, so I can go about wearing my tail, ears, and collar freely.

If the sharp parts are ever really bothering you, you can cover it up with tape. Fabric tape, hockey tape, etc. And congrats  :3

Eh, as I suspected, after a few days of wear the edges wore down - they never really bothered me anyways. I guess for $7 you get what you pay for. I should pick up some leather polish - It'd make the edges rounder, and the leather shine nicely. I also found some leather string to tie the "WAR" pendant onto the D-Ring on my collar. I think it looks really nice.

Mine are leather and don't bother me in general, look for softer collars that have padding.

Whooo, this seems cool!

I don't have a collar yet, but I remember me and my good buddy who is also a huge furry were looking at ones on Amazon longingly. He wanted one for a cat, as his fursona is a lion-type thing, but we couldn't find one as he is a big man and cats are tiny. At the time, we didn't really have the money to buy them. But he's going to be visiting me soon, and I figure that'll be the PERFECT way to get a collar. Just going to a Petmart or Wal-Mart or something. (I also need to pick up an actual collar for an actual pet there too, so it'll be good for that as well.)

When I get one though, I'm probably going to be super happy just to wear it. Though I doubt I'll wear it around my family... it'd likely attract their attention. Even me wearing normal clothes gets criticism out of them. Random people though? Sure, why not? I don't mind. Most of them will probably be too timid to even say anything about it anyway. The reason I'll be buying one for myself is because dogs are domesticated animals, and well, collars are highly associated with them. To me, getting a collar is a great way to feel like an animal without attracting TOO much attention in public like ears, a tail, or a fursuit would. (Not that I don't want those either. I SO do.)

Thanks for the guide though, that was nice. :3 And a good reminder to get one!

My first actual color was pink and black striped, and it was for a cat (I had to add a small chain to the back) that I bought from the Park and Shop; it had it's own bell, but I attached a pink bunny bell I got from anime club for sentimental value, everytime it rang I thought of that old club.  I live in a really small town, so for the first month or so, people made a big deal about it (especially since I'm known for wearing cat ears).  They stopped when they realized that I wear much stranger things and that their teasing doesn't faze me.

Hmm, i wear my nylon collar like 24/7... no problem.  Mine is quite tight around my neck so it doesn't move around that much.
You can allways try a leather one, or get ony from collarfactory for example (They can put in a liner).

First I didn`t want to get a collar, since im more of wild animal and I don`t like to feel that im not free. But after reading the entire thread here, I really want one. As a symbol for being a furry. Im proud of being a furry, im not shouting out loud "LOOK AT ME, IM A FURRY!!!" but I want to show that im a furry. This is the best community i have ever been in and im proud to be a part of it. I feel more at home on this forum than in my own house. So I will probaly get a collar pretty soon  XD

Now im done with my collar :D  http://s1008.photobucket.com/user/sigurdols/media/MycollarndashKopi_zps79ad765a.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 (http://s1008.photobucket.com/user/sigurdols/media/MycollarndashKopi_zps79ad765a.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0)
There was nothing magical when I took it on for the first time, it was a little to tight, but now its fine. I don`t have it as a sign of domestication (hope that is the right word), I use for showing my furrynes. I am not shouting "IM A FURRY, LOOK AT ME!" but I want to show who I am. I do not wear this in public yet, I use it when im home alone, and I sleep with it.

Mine, if you can believe it started out as a submissive thing with my mate :3
Either way I wear it whenever the family isn't around (wish it was more often XD)
I occasionally wear the chain leash too, but my mate and I have decided that it's better to use that whe the time is appropriate (when going out) and just have the collar on the rest of the time. Anyway the leash tends to add weight to the collar which can become uncomfortable if worn for too long, it's much easier just the wear the collar itself :3
When I wear it though I get a rush to animalistic energy, wanting to get down all fours and often remove most or all clothing, except for the collar XD I also like wearing it out in public because of the weird looks I get sometimes, they amuse me ^^

I sometimes wear leather dog collars as an everyday accessory, even when going to places outdoors.. I don't think it's something that you have to hide or be ashamed of. In my experience people don't really care much ^^ My favourite one is a brown collar with metal pawprints on it, followed by a plain black one :3

I also kinda "collects" collars, buying one every now and then wherever they might decide to appear ^^ The person selling them usually think that you know what you're doing and won't ask many questions since most stores won't allow you to bring your dog in with you anyway... (only question I've ever got was "You sure it's the right size?" )

I want a dog collar a lot however I'm having much difficulty getting my hands on one.
Amazon put this pending payment on my visa gift card so now the card thinks I only have 4$ when really I should have 14$ because I have no idea where the hell that pending payment came from. I have done almost everything possible to fix it so I won't go into details.
I then asked my mom if we could go to the store for one and she isn't very happy about it, giving me a hard time so I don't know if I'll ever get there.
I think my only option is going to be to wait until I can drive to the store myself ):

I want a puppy/dog collar, something a typic dog would wear. Simple nylon or around there. I'm not into the leather ones- as I don't want it for style but for feel. I'm a cuddly wosky and like the feeling of being trapped/helpless, as well as the feeling of being cute/cuddly. The current one I'm looking at is a lighter blue with brown paw prints all around it. Not very typic for humans buttttttt it's what I want! Other then that I think a plain black or blue one would work too.
And I definitely want a leash :D

Just be careful when buying a puppy collar, most of the times they're too small for normal necks... Collars intended for Medium-sized dogs and upwards seem to work best.. I have been planning on getting a nylon one, but I'm afraid it might end up making friction-burns around my neck since there's no fur there... Even the normal leather ones tend to have sharp edges that might start cutting...

Maybe there is a way to sew on some fabric like fleece on the inside?

And yes I know about the sizes c:
I hadn't meant actually buying a collar for a puppy! I more of less meant cute. No studs or anything
Title: Re: Post and Talk about your Collars! And why you wear one
Post by: Cheza on January 11, 2014, 10:09:02 PM
I'm a disaster when it comes to sewing so I'll just try to deal with it..  XD
And I wrote that because when I got my first collar (impulse buy at a random store), I had no idea what I was doing or what size I'd need so I just grabbed a puppy collar and it ended up being too small x-x
And I prefer "normal" collars too :3 Studded or chain-collars doesn't fit my character, but something like this is fine: http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mo20kOUTKVqw6-VBxpJxMXw.jpg (http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mo20kOUTKVqw6-VBxpJxMXw.jpg)
^Almost exactly what the collar i described in my first post looks like :3
(I also do have a pink collar with beads on the sides, fake gems on the buckle and a sparkle-leopard print for those special days, even if it's OOC for my fursona x3)

Post by: Snow Kittie on January 11, 2014, 10:14:56 PM
Haha I like that one (:
Also glad I'm not alone on wanting a normal collar x
hopefully I can get one because I really wanted to sleep with it and now that I've read this I really really really want to!

I've actually never tried sleeping with a collar on... Could make for an interesting experiment :3
(Quick in-between edit: Gonna try sleep with this on tonight http://www.bf-gear.com/files/2010/08/nahkapanta_vuoritettu.jpg (http://www.bf-gear.com/files/2010/08/nahkapanta_vuoritettu.jpg)
I have the black slim one in the picture)

Normal collars adds more to the special feeling somehow, at least for me :3 I like the idea of being a beloved family pet that's mostly laying around my owners feet or running around doing silly things. It just doesn't feel the same with a spiked collar since that gives more of a "guard dog"-feeling xD

This is an interesting one.
I never really wanted one until recently.  I had officially made a fursona back in Sept 2013 with the help of my "owner".  I put that in air quotes because she's not the typical definition of owner.  I am more like her awesome friend and hang out when she asks.  Anyway, I told her that I wanted a collar to simply have a fur-ccessory :P  I have made ears that fit a hoodie and currently working on a tail(that I now need to redesign) and then I wanted a collar to go with.  Since I was going to be traveling to Oklahoma in a few weeks, I decided to wait and go with her to get one.  We went to a local pet shop and picked out this big ass linked-metal chain.  It's more like a chain than a collar, but I chose its size for the reason of wearing it with a fursuit that would have a large neck later on.  Also, I wear a tie to work sometimes and I can't stand wearing one as it makes me feel like I am choking.  I even tug at it from time to time during the day.  I wouldn't sleep in it due to that reason.  A small amount of people die each year from strangling themselves with their own bed sheets.  I highly doubt I'd do that, but no reason to add to the fray.
I wear it out in public under my shirt.  It sticks out above my shirt behind my neck, but I have long hair that goes to between my shoulder blades effectively blocking it from view.  IF you were paying attention while looking at me or looked at me from a slight angle you might see it on the sides of my neck just before it goes under my shirt.
Recently, I changed Eon from a Wolf to a Red Panda so it's kind of ODD, but i still wear it from time to time.

*Random picture spree - You have been warned*

Got bored and decided to take pictures of me wearing all my collars one at a time x-x
Since there will be several pictures I'll put them under spoilers

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/59/pfae.jpg) This is my usual everyday-collar.. I like to wear it since it's pretty soft on the inside

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/15/l316.jpg) Sparkly leopard-printed collar with extra sparkles and beads for those weird days you just have to go OOC xP

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/689/lxkd.jpg) Originally a bracelet, now slightly modified into a collar.. Added the tag and the weird two-ringed thing by the buckle...

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/24/b62w.jpg) The only collar I own that's actually meant for humans xD

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/600/kuwh.jpg) Originally a bracelet, and the first thing that made me notice that I actually like wearing these things... Memories xP

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/15/vtj1.jpg) I have two of these... Didn't bother to put on the other one so I just took a pic of it like this... Here it's easier to see the two-ringed thing

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/534/er8w.jpg) Extremely over-sized (Can easily fit my whole hand between the collar and my neck) xD Bought as a future accessory in case I ever get a Cheza-fursuit x3

(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/194/g6rm.jpg) My favourite collar<3

Here's my latest additions :3 (hopefully the pics show up for you guys too x-x)

^A plain purple collar with a bone-shaped thingy. This is my first nylon-collar and so far I'm happy with it
(I do notice that this feel like it's chafing more than most of the leather-collars i own, but it could also be because it's not properly broken in yet :'P)

And A SHINY!!! x3

I just bought my first collar over the weekend, and it just arrived at my house today! My tag has not yet come in, but it's just a basic silver one. It is very comfortable and I am glad to finally own one.
It's purple and blue stripes. I was going to get the 1" collar, but I was worried that the circumference would be too large since I have a thin neck, so I decided to go with the medium sized one with a 3/4th" width just to be safe.

Bonus: Me wearing said collar while making weird faces.

I just got this one today! I love it so much, it's so comfortable, from The Collar Shop. I'm about to buy a plain black one for me to wear out without it looking too odd. Collar Shop is very similar to Collar Factory, but they have a few extra colour options at the moment, which is why I went for them.

I am very, very picky about the softness of the clothing I wear, so I couldn't be happier with this.

I'll admit I felt really nervous almost 'dirty' about putting on my collar for the first time, because, like a derp v_v, I didn't want to be standing around in a pet store looking for collars for myself, so I went and bought one from a bondage shop (as though that is somehow less embarrassing right? Than standing in  pet shop, where everyone would presume I'm buying it for a pet... >_<). I'm kinda glad that I did though, it's very high quality. It's got a soft almost fur on the outside and it's got foam inside, and I'm not too sure what the inner material is called but it's soft and it doesn't get all nasty from sweat. It's velcro which is nice to get a decent size, but it does kinda itch a little. I think it's a little too wide for my liking, and I think it kinda obviously looks like a bondage collar over a pet one so I haven't worn it outside. I live with my boyfriend who felt a little uncomfortable by it, but only because it made him feel like he was treating me like a pet, but he's mostly okay with it now. He laughed a lot when I told him where it was from though v_v

But now, I wear it most of the time, I feel comfortable and more at home with it on and my boyfriend is fine with it :3

Thank you Cheza, I checked around but didn't see that particular one, still I probably have enough for now...(not really haha).

Kasine,
I know what you mean about trying on collars at the pet store but once I did  it a few times, it didn't really seem like a big deal. But it sounds like the one you got at the sex shop might be a bit more comfortable then regular pet ones are on average. And I gotta agree that wearing a collar around the house is just plain fun.

It's a bit different from my other ones, but it's already become one of my favs. I've always had issues with spiky collars before, but it seems like the trick to finding one that feels durable and that won't break as soon as you look at it is to get it from a pet store xP

What do you think of it?

Just to be clear, I'm new to this kind of things and I don't know how others might react to this.

How sweet would it be if everyone wore collars with their names on it, and then i wouldn't forget peoples' names on a daily basis...

But yeah i luv the way they look and would wear one (if i had one) in public if i wasn't so self-conscious.

Four of my collars. The bottom-left one I don't think I've shown before, but it's a green LED-collar. The middle thing on the bottom row is a normal necklace a furry friend gave me for christmas/my birthday. It's got a small C on it, and it keeps confusing people xD

The next day I couldn't find it anywhere, and ever since she has said nothing about it, even when I ask  :(  Luckily I have a part time job now, so I can buy a much better one from the Collarfactory (which, I HIGHLY recommend btw. my friend got one from there and he never takes the dang thing off  XD )

I want to make mine, not really a color like a cat or dogs or whatever furry like collars. I should draw it but it's from a facility so it would look somewhat futuristic ^^ I'm thinking of commissioning or making it
Title: why do YOU guys wear collars?
Post by: moonwolf101 on September 29, 2015, 07:36:48 PM
because kids at my school make fun of kids that wear collars and start teasing them, so I'm trying to stop that with a few other furry friends at my school. I keep getting asked why I wear it, so while I state the reason I wear it.its a pink dog collar, that my dog used to wear, but she got a new one so I didn't know what to do with it....and thus, I wear it.

I wear one mostly because I think they can be nice accessories, kinda like necklaces.

2. Identification as a member of the fandom

3. I heard that it helps with species dysphoria in some cases (unconfirmed)

My friend is getting us matching collars for Christmas.

They're leather and she says they're well-made but I'm still apprehensive about wearing one.

There's nothing scary about it.
Only one thing about it, is people might keep asking you about it or interpretate it wrong. But it doesn't annoy me much, I use it to advertise the fandom.

I used to wear my deceased dog's tag around my neck as a necklace, when asked I would just say it means something special to me.

I dunno, I'm worried my stepmom will try to get rid of it or call me names.

Before I began to wear my dogs old pink collar I used to wear my deceased dogs brown one. But an word got out it belonged to my dead dog, kids went nuts! And started saying it was weird....so now that I wear a different collar, I am still laughed at....I dunno how you do it.

I also like to wear a collar during the winter months, because my body heat warms up the collar, so when its cold and my fingers or hands get cold I can just wrap it around them until the heat fades then put it back on.

I wore a collar for a long time in high school. Most people thought it was a goth thing, but we all here know what it was about. In any case, I think it was generally just accepted as an accessory as long as you weren't out shouting about being a furry to everyone.

Now I wear one, I feel like a dog getting their first collar and scratch and tug at it all the time. Guess I'm just one of those untamed ones at heart. They just make me want to chew them off. Here's a question - would you let your mate wear one if you didn't, or would you feel too much like his/her owner? It wouldn't bother me any I don't think. Kind of sexy, honestly - just doesn't work for me wearing one. Cursed collars! *growl*

I used to wear one while I was in a master/pet relationship, but I have a black leather collar that I now wear just to wear it. It has a tag with a wolf pawprint on one side, and my Inupiat name on the other.

This is mine :3 Green and Red to match my coloration as a dragon! The inner lining is purple though :3 It's lamb leather, very soft and the ring has a delightful jingle to it when I walk XD

And I wear it out in public from time to time. But if I'm at home (alone or with my owner) then I'd wear it all the time XD I love it! It's even featured in my avatar, he and it are inseparable! Why wear it? Cause it feels great, and makes me feel closer to Soul (me as a Dragon), or can make me feel all submissive  X3 but we won't get into that.

I think it'd be interesting to try wearing some sort of collar, at least as an occasional accessory. Wearing an obvious dog/animal type collar in public might be a little awkward for me personally X3 Maybe something more subtle and simple.

I'm working on a rune necklace for my boyfriend, but it makes me wonder about what a collar would be like. I don't know if he would be interested in that though... ^^'

They're all custom made. You give them the dimensions of the neck in the order box :) He says to make them a teeny bit bigger though, to accommodate the thickness. I have a custom simple black pleather collar with rounded silver spikes. It's wider than a nylon collar and very comfortable.

I wear it in public and no one really seems to care. I sleep in it too.

I didn't feel anything when I first put it on, and I didn't until I really started to break it in. I wipe down the inside every few days because bacteria and oils from your skin can build up in it and it can start to smell, but otherwise I love it.

I also think it's hot too.

I love wearing my collar, I used to wear it to school all the time, but then people started calling me "cat collar" or saying stuff like "do your parents put you on a leash and stuff?" in mocking tones so I stopped. I'm thinking about wearing it again tho, because all the talk and stares have stopped, especially since I have been wearing a choker instead, but I prefer my collar...kids can be cruel.  :/

Kids will always find stuff to be cruel about :P

Even as a young adult when I wear mine in the city: leash and all, I get young kids making snide remarks about me being a dog or something. But they're easy to ignore.

I don't walk about in the city that much these days, if I did I'd wear it more often, same at home: either way I wear it with pride. It really puts me in the skin of my sona, and makes me feel like I belong to my owner, which I love.

I wish I could easily ignore people too. Tho my school is basically centered around beauty, popularity and normality...I hate it. Like I get questions and remarks (which aren't too good) about my body, to which I could care less about, but when It's something involving my interests and personality that's when It's starts to bother me. I'm getting better at ignoring the snotty remarks and laughs, but they still "echo" in my mind...So ya, pretty annoying. I'm glad you have no problem ignoring all the kids and that you take pride in it. Very awesome and inspiring.

It can be tough ignoring people. Just remember that the only thing that matters is that you're happy with who you are. These other people? If you don't care about them then they have no power over you, at the end of the day if they don't offer anything positive to your life then you can throw them away. At the end of the day they'll go off and be them and you'll still be you. Why do people insist on poking fun and glorifying mediocrity and normality? Don't know, don't care. I just stick to being me and keep on smiling. Never stop being you. Cause there are tones of people out there who will slam you for you, no matter what "you" is, but there are people who will celebrate you as well. Just remember that these people trying to popular and normal, that's their thing, they're entitled to it. What's not ok is trying to make you feel like the way you're doing things is inferior to theirs. It's not, it's just different.

Easy to put into flowery speech, but blocking out the hate is harder to practice, to live out. I know how easy it can be to focus on the negative in what people say, or just on the negative people in your life, but if you keep something good in mind always, even something little: the weekend, good food, friends, or a holiday or something, then the bad stuff will fade away.

Anyway, I seem to have rambled a bit o.O

Overall Bullet Point of that: Be happy with who you are. At the end of the day it all comes back to you.

Ps: looking back at all this I apologize if all that kinda came out of nowhere and is way over the top XD my bad!

I get a lot of positive comments actually. It's you guys that convinced me to try a collar, and I ended up rather liking it. Now, coupled with my tail and ears on my hat, I even had a random truck driver at a gas station make a motion with his hands on his head as he walked by, then stop and high five me when he saw my tail. Honestly, I'm getting a hell of a lot of positive feedback, which is exactly the opposite of what I was expecting. Guess I look good with it all. I don't know.

I initially wore one because it was a way of expressing myself as a furry but in a sorta understated way. Helped me feel more in character when I was having a glum day.

Now that I've gotten more into the fandom and my non furry fiance is starting to come around, he got me a collar for our relationship. It has 2 tags on it, one has my fursonas name and some other info (I forget what else we put on there cause its packed away in the suiting box) and the other tag has the date we started dating and the date he proposed. He thought it'd be a good idea and alternative to me wearing my ring in suit and at cons (I usually don't bring it to these things out of town, would be terrified if it got lost so it stays home for safe keeping).

I've had my collar for about 7 years now, almost as long as I've been in the fandom ^_^

Its just a small purple cat collar, nothing flashy & its thin, which I guess is why I've gotten away with wearing it nearly everywhere. Its to the point now that my neck feels weird without it >_> (Except at work, of course) It has my fursona name on it and a rabies tag my friend gave me as a joke ;P

Then I have a dog collar to wear at cons that matches my fursona's collar since I wear it with my suit ^^

I wear collars on occasion, I just wish the family was gone more so I could do it more often. I have an orange plasticish collar, a nylon(?) cammo collar, and a metal choke collar. Most often, I wear it when home alone (very rare) or on an even rarer occasion, to bed. I had thought last semester about doing it at college, but I have been going there for a while, so I already have an image with the professors, and I don't want to look weird.
Do you think I should try wearing one at college?

I did get a collar in sixth grade and I wore it at school but ever since I got into JR High Ive always been too nervous to wear it. My Mom did not know I had one but when she found out she reacted badly, but I don't blame her. Some people see it as a "sexual" thing and she could have to. I have never wore it to bed... I might tonight! Honestly, one or two of my friends don't really like furries overall. One I'm not sure why, the other because he thinks it's going to make everyone who is one start wearing tails and dress up like cats or something. I know this sounds preachy but it's really annoying. Should I be more confident and wear my collar?  @.@

I wear a stainless steel collar/chain with a wolf pendant on it. It started out as an alternative to wearing a wedding ring, as I'm always messing with mechanical stuff, but over the last couple of years it has come to be so much more.

(edit: after reading thru a bunch of the posts here I feel like I can be a little more open... The real truth is the collar was given to me BY my Mate when She took charge of the relationship almost 4 years ago. I'm not a true sub, She is just the Alpha in the house so I am sub to Her. The Wolf pendant was also a gift from Her after wearing the collar faithfully for a year.)

As Naake Ni has become more a part of who I am IRL the collar is a reminder of my commitment to both my mate (wife) and to my journey to learn all I can about my Wolf spirit. I have had it on so long the barrel clasp has seized and will not unscrew anymore... not that I would take it off voluntarily...

Should also say, I have a thick black leather collar that I bought, but Mate doesn't like it (yet). would really love to wear it when I'm more Naake ni than me.

I just have a black fabric dog collar. It's thicker and smoother than nylon, and retains heat pretty well.
I wear it to school a few times a week and no one really seems to care, since wearing chokers is a trend now.

Would love to get something more similar to my fursona's, but I don't have the money atm.

So, I just bought a collar from Walmart. It's nothing fancy (It is from Walmart). It's blue and it feels great. I had a necklace with a paw charm on it, but I found a small key ring and used it to attach the charm to the metal D-ring on the collar. I like to wear it with the buckle at the front because it is next to the D-ring. I bought a teal collar for my friend Chiku here on the forums (I know them IRL and they asked me for one).

When I first put it on, I felt proud for being myself. Then my Dad questioned me and talked on and on about keeping me from "the dark side" of the fandom. That killed the pride. It's really comfortable except for this one spot that keeps the D-ring on that kept scratching me 2 days ago when I first bought it. It was the glue that scratched and now some of the scratchy glue wore off. Now it's smooth and is almost unnoticeable.

Of course there are those places where my collar is unacceptable, particularly my church. I'm pretty Christian, so it's kinda unacceptable to be wearing such things at church. When I don't want anyone to suspect anything, I put it on my belt like it's a keychain and it goes unnoticed.

The pictures are too big to put on the post but here are the links to them: http://bit.ly/2n61QPn (http://bit.ly/2n61QPn), http://bit.ly/2nkIkjQ (http://bit.ly/2nkIkjQ)

^Not a fan of nylon collars myself (just hating the feel of the material. I've tried a few, but the only one I can stand of the ones I have is the one with a LED-strip in it).
But I'm happy that you're happy, ofc ^^

And yeah, sadly people tend to be a little too quick to get weird ideas about this, but at the same time it's kinda hard to blame them, too.
But for most of the time, people luckily don't seem to care all that much (if) at all, unless you actively try to call attention to the fact that you're wearing a collar or something.

As for me, it's been a while since I last got a new collar.
Seeing as I already have a decent bunch of them, it's getting increasingly harder for me to find ones that really stand out to me.

But during NFC, I decided to do this:

I attached my amulet of Mara to my steampunk-y collar, and at least to me, they look pretty neat together.
Plus, now I get that sweet sweet 10% magicka discount on restoration magic wherever I go! :D
Hurr-durr Skyrim references.

Closer view of the amulet. Really beautifully made.

And a picture of me wearing it. Still trying to decide on wether I should try to come up with a better way to attach it, but for now this will do just fine.

When I am at College I wear this nice red collar that matches the one my mate has, but now that I am back home for the summer that really isnt something that can happen anymore

I got mine after a long search for something orange.  I finally found one that also had a lime green stripe which is his color. I waited to wear it after getting it approved by my Lizard,  he was so excited to see it and helped me fit it. I wear it mostly when I can't be near him or when I bed some reassurance that he really is mine.  So for me my collar is very special. Although I'm not sure annoy wearing it most places where people know me well, like when I'm off duty at work or at friends houses etc. I don't notice it most times though, it's very comfortable.

Keep in mind I'm only going to wear it when I wear my fursuit.

I have a nice real leather collar, but I only wear it in the confines of my house. I have a leather wrist band that I've started wearing alongside a bandanna or choker when I'm out and about, so I'm not too miffed at all  XP

My collar is a thick blue one, but I'm looking into getting one soon with my sona name engraved into it! It just feels right when I'm wearing a collar. Plus I just love the smell of leather - I have a leather jacket that I take everywhere with me, that musty smell just smells like home to me. Reminds me of my partner :*

My bear doesn't feel comfortable letting me out wearing a collar, so I think that this one will be stuck in choker/bandanna town for life  XD (not that I mind; anything to make sure my fluffbear is comfortable and safe <3)

Where do you get your collars and about how much are they? I am comsidering getting a slightly cheaper one to see how it is and decide whether or not to get a nicer one. :D

I get mine from pet stores. Online ones can have pretty neat selections at times so it's become a bit of a hobby to collect unusual/nice-looking ones.
The ones in my size (small-medium dog or ~40cm) tend to go for around ~20-30€/about the same in dollars.

Aaah, how time changes things. Got a real nice Rogue Garments padded leather collar arriving today from WruffStuff, which my bear had hand-picked and surprised me with. We've long-since moved in together - this month is our seven-year anniversary. It's become something really special between us, the collar. It's akin to a wedding-ring, if you will. Actually, bear loves putting my collar on me, so it's making me giggle to remember those first shy years.

Yes; this one goes out of the house in collars now. (Wow, I still have that thick leather cuff. It says 'DOG' in big letters - my bear purchased it for me from D&A Leathercraft at a furry event. I would always recommend them; it's just wonderful.)

New collar is padded, and has a wonderful pink lining to it  ^_^ what a good echidnapet I am, to be gifted such a lovely, fancy collar.
