Unreal 2.
Was a fun little idea, two teams of five players and ten AI controlled NPC's. A black team and a white team. The game world was a sandbox entirely in grey. Instead of dying if a player or NPC recieved enough damage they would transfer over to the other side (players would become NPCs). The goal was to convert the entire enemy team.
If the black team becan to win the game world would become darker and cover in the form of black, tendrillike growths would spawn in. If the white team was winning the game world was larger and the short renderng distance would increase in size ("removing the fog".
Players resembled anthropomorphised chess pieces. The whole thing was about some guy losing his sanity, and the black team represented the chaos of his psyche and the white mental clarity.
If only it had worked xD
