Jay sat with some of the older soldiers, listening intently to their banter but not really joining in. Davis, as usual, was in the center of the group, weaving one of his stories from 'back home', the group couldn't help but be enthralled. The rabbit though, let his mind wonder as his friend (the only one he'd been able to make so far in this unit; the lapine being the youngest one there) continued his story. Jay's mind drifted over the invasion, the date had seemed so far away when he had first joine and he had been so excited and willing to be in the thick of it, in the 'glory of battle' as the recruitment posters had put it. But now... with all of his training and preparations, the date had zoomed up on him almost unexpectedly.
Worry began to eat at his insides, while his companions all looked so relaxed. Though he couldn't be quite sure, he knew at least that he too looked relaxed - though that was only a mask, a brave face he put forward for the rest of the unit, so that they wouldn't worry too much about their youngest, most fresh-faced soldier. He couldn't help but wonder if the others were doing the same, or if they were truly comfortable. They would be shipping out tomorrow and that scared him, scared him a whole lot more than he was letting on.
