« on: August 29, 2017, 02:49:14 PM »
I-I don't know how to say this... I think I've contracted "canadian"

I live in michigan, for those that don't know this state borders canada. First off, I'm primarily part scottish, german, and french... FRENCH! DO YOU KNOW WHO ELSE HAS A LOT OF FRENCH? CANADA!!!

Not just that but I have an uncle who lives in Charlevoix and says "AY" ALL THE TIME!

I tried Tim Hortons coffee for the first time ever just a week ago... NOW IT'S THE ONLY COFFEE I DRINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And worst of all, I'm a Bret Hart fan. Help me please... PLEASE!  :'(

You know... a lot of British people say 'ay' a lot, and that the French migrated a lot not only to Canada but to the US as well, right? xD
I'm not saying you may or may not be Canadian, but there are a lot more factors to take into consideration. plus, indeed, if your roots haven't changed that much from the state you are in, chances are likely there is US-Canadian mix.

Most of my historical knowledge related to france is related to the revolution, reformation, and the medieval age. With the exception of the irish, I've never been big into historical migration.

Well, one big part is that the French helped America a lot when they were fighting to become independant from England/the UK! :)

I am well aware of that. Without french aid the americans would have lost the war. Ironically, america's victory as well as the large amount of resources the king sent to aid the rebels was a large factor as to why the french had a revolution of their own.

They shouldn't have helped you .3.
Bad French.
:P
But yeah, that's why there might be a lot of French bloodlines still in the US itself. If you're near a place where a lot of French people settled (in other words, a large part of Canada your state is next to), then undoubtingly that might also be a factor.

Well, in all fairness the French Revolution probably would have happened anyway, just not as soon as it did. Or since the king would have had his army at full strength it would have been a lot easier to contend with.
