E-Mail and website addresses

So odd question, but I could use everyone's input on this >3>

I'm going to slowly set up my own website with e-mail address.
Now there seem to be a few opinions on how a website and e-mail address should be named. What I mean by that is adding or not adding symbols like - or _

As an e-mail address I'm torn. Should it be:
[email protected]  or  [email protected]  ?
[email protected]  or  [email protected]  ?

As a website:
Ventus-Fall.com  or  VentusFall.com  ?

Or should I (for the website one) just get both addresses and they link to the same website?


Basically: What do you prefer?
(And why?)
What is handier, more convenient, etc.?

As someone who's in the sector, I'd suggest going with just [email protected], since settings up the [email protected] tends to be more pricey and tedious to accomplish.


As for the URL, I would always go with VentusFall.com. It's the most self-explanatory one and it makes for a great URL since you don't have to remember any - or _ or even .  .


Oh and you never want to use a . as dividing character, because when you have nmct.howest.be the howest is usually a reference to a top-level domain which would cause confusion

And what do you mean exactly with that last part, about being a top-level domain?

You never heard of that term? You can find more about it here  and here ! It basically refers to a generalized format for naming different levels of a website domain

It really isn't, that's why ventusfall.com would be optimal in my opinion. Using - in a url is generally just to be avoided in my opinion, unless the one without is taken

I like it without the dash better.  It is easier to remember.  If someone told me to go to "Ventus Fall Dot Com", I would automatically type it without the dashes.

The Dash can cause confusion, in branding it's simple: the easier the name is to write/remember, the easier people will find the website/email 
So let's go for VentusFall, easier and personally my favourite.

I think just VentusFall without the hyphen.
First of all, it's nice and short with no unnecessary symbols. Basically it looks nice and clean/professional. I personally find that the use of hyphens and other symbols comes in when the name has already been taken, so to be able to use just letters and get why you want is a privilege you don't want to pass up on.


However, the nice thing about gmail addresses, is that once you've made your email, you can add full stops anywhere before the @ sign and it will still me sent to the original email address.
For example, you could make [email protected] and then publish it as [email protected] and it will still go through to VentusFall.
