Furry world map making!
« on: November 15, 2016, 10:57:33 PM »
So this is a sort of thread I made a long time ago that died, but people seemed to be interested in it if I revived it. So, here's how you play  :3

You are to create a new country that will be part of this collective world. You can customize it to your liking, within certain obvious parameters. Below are not strictly rules, but more like guidelines to help you get the idea of how to contribute. I'd like to see:
-Name of country, and any capital, big towns, important landmarks etc.
-Size of the land. Kudos if you use metric (km2)
-Topography, climate, landscape
-What species dominate the land. Variety in wilderness is natural, but if the "population" is of a certain kind, please do share
-Any special language spoken. To distance this world from the real one we live in ourselves, refer to English as "the common tongue" if they speak that language. Bilingualism is not a problem
-Culture? Political system? Religion?
-And last but not least: Neighbouring lands, among those already posted. However, island nations typically have no bordering countries. Also, no Vatican-type countries (surrounded by a single country). And this is fairly obvious, but we're not talking Zootopia, so deserts should not border a polar-type land.

Hope many will contribute! Refer your friends too ;) Below is my post!

Compactis

A land consisting mostly of grassy meadows and dense forests. The area totals at 397.337 km2 and is divided by lake-filled valleys and steep mountain ridges. While the North-most area is near polar, the southern point stays warm through most of the year.

The land is run by king Zane, resident of the city of Melodhiga, the capital of Compactis. After Zane's father Richard took the throne through a month-long dispute, he imposed a reform that among other things changed the language to Eldyrian, a trill-heavy language similar to northern European. Zane himself tied bonds between the closest towns until he managed to form the land to three parishes. While these are not currently in any conflict, their beliefs are different.

The royal family is equine, and the guards in Melodhiga are lynxes. The rest of the population is mixed due to trade voyages bringing new residents, but Melodhiga has about half of its population cervine. Aridnia in the North is primarily populated by foxes and wolves, and Czespin in the South is entirely populated by sheep and goats.

While the belief in higher or unseen powers is present, about sixty percent of Compactis' population is agnostic. Czespin has the most focus on religion, and thus has herbs, books and medicine as its main export. Aridnia exports primarily fish and metals due to an abundance of mineral rich mountains. Melodhiga serves as the port for trading overseas, and is the hub for such. Melodhiga is next to woodland, and has lumber and berries as its trade good.

The Kingdom of Furgasta
(Continent, size of China & Russia combined North-west of the world's Equator)

This continent kingdom is ruled by the Silvermyst royal family. All species in Furgasta are anthro animal, with anthro dragons being the exception. Furgasta has three climate zones: Temperate Forest, Mediterranean and Boreal Forest. The spoken language is the common tongue, though a bit of ye olde and has some words and phrases from ancient Egyptian culture.

Technology-wise, they rely on steam-powered and arcane-powered devices, and housing and defenses being a blend of Victorian and Medieval Fantasy. Magic in Arcane, Elemental and Divine are often practiced, Necromancy is heavily regulated for certain jobs, and Demonic magics are forbidden outright.

At the center of the overall kingdom sits Mount Godspeak, the most holy site in Furgasta. It is there that each new Silvermyst ruler must climb to the top and meet with Amun-Ra, God of Creation, and reforge the holy weapon, Wolfspirit, in order to attune the divine energies of the metal to the soul of the wielder, and into a weapon that best suits their style.

The religion of Furgasta is called 'The Way of Virtue'. The Gods and Goddesses are those of the ancient Egyptian pantheon. However, the Eight Virtues (Compassion, Valor, Honesty, Justice, Sacrifice, Honor, Spirituality & Humility) which comprise the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom is what people use as a guide to good living and relations.

Crimes are dealt with in the court legal system, with judges and lawyers, often orphans raised by the government since birth to be completely impartial and fair in order to put them above the temptations of bribes and corruption.

Slavery is heavily regulated. Soft slaves  are people who sell themselves for a contracted amount of time. That money is put away in a bank, only accessible once the contract has expired. Contracts are negotiated between slave and prospective buyer as to  what is permitted, living conditions and duties. Hard slaves are repeat criminal offenders and/or have committed and been convicted of major crimes that do not carry the death penalty as punishment. These slaves are sold by the government for a set length of time and do not enjoy the protections a soft slave does. They are required only two meals a day, shelter and basic medical attention. Hard slaves that attack their owner or try to escape are allowed to be killed for the safety of the public.

The political hierarchy is as follows (Least to greatest): Hard Slaves, Soft Slaves, Commonwealth, Lords/Ladies, Clergy, Law Enforcement/Military (Knights/Paladins), High Clerics, King/Queen (The ruler of Silvermyst Bloodline is considered the Pharaoh regardless of gender, their mate is the supporting ruler).

The culture of the Furgastian people is one of solidarity. While there is a healthy competition within the free market system of commerce, the people of Furgasta are full of tight-knit communities. It is not uncommon for entire towns to know a good majority of the other people living there on a first-name basis. Religion and virtuous living are paramount in the lives of the citizens. Crime is usually low as a result of this, plus that most towns are kept small so as to make it easier to find troublemakers (Usually 2,000 people per town on average, not including the capital city of Amun-Ra, which boasts a full three million, mostly military).

Any criminal convicted in the court of law of a crime less than major crimes are usually used for hard labor in the mines or mills. Upon completing their sentence, they must undergo one year of rehab in order to prepare for release into society, often in setting up jobs where the individual can do the most good.

At the end of each season, a one week festival is held, celebrating the end of one season and welcoming the next. There is also an important festival called "The Week of Unity", celebrating the day Jayson Silvermyst finished uniting the many tribes of the land into one and founded Furgasta. It is also a day to celebrate the men and women of the military and law enforcement fields, and a day set aside for mourning those in such fields who sacrificed their lives in the call of duty, as well as those who had lost their lives in wars past.
