What is your favourite movie genre?

I couldn't find a similar thread already existing and I'm curious what people like with regards to movies and their reason as to why, so...


What is your favourite movie genre(s) and why?
(Maybe you can name some movie titles as examples as well.)

I don't generally gravitate towards one genre specifically, but I do have a thing for crime dramas. Goodfellas, No Country for Old Men, Heat, and movies like that are ones I find really enjoyable. Maybe an odd selection, but Harsh Times is one of my favorite films period. Just give me a mafioso or two, some guns, maybe a bank heist, and some swearing and violence for good measure, and I'll be happy.

I mainly like animated fantasy like Yobi:The five tailed fox and zootopia

My main one is Science Fiction and Marvel
I also like some movies based on natural disasters (such as Twisted, San Andreas, 10.5, The Day After Tomorrow, Volcano, Deep Impact, The Core)
I also enjoy Horror movies that don't mix in comedy or science fiction (such as House on Haunted Hill, Gravedancers, Drag Me To Hell)


I have to say that animated movies are top favorite of mine, especially when my favorite species are in the main cast (no matter if they are in the good or bad guys)

Animated for sure, big fan of Don bluth and the same time I really like the signal and district 9... I don't know if there is a genre for it but like district 9, don't like space movies In General (excluding star wars here) but the plot in district 9 was appealing to me due to the aliens.

It's hard to pin down a specific genre.

I guess what I'm interested is movies that are gritty, they have an aesthetic of violence, but also a philosophical touch that leaves you thinking. In general if I leave a movie theater thinking then I consider the movie a good film, if I come out of the movie theater pumped then I consider it a good film too. I also like comedies as well.

  Not too interested in romantic movies but don't mind romance if it's not the center of attention.

Sci-fi, crime drama, horror, and some comedy. Of course animated as well, but my favorite movies of all time are all a mix of them. City of lost Children, Amelie, Dark City, and Mirrormask are up there.

I love animated movies! Disney movies (and movies similar) are really good but I also like adult humor and horror/gore movies. Children's movies are good, too!
