my family was over on thanksgiving and the talk of the fandom came up and I told them that I enjoy being part of the fandom. As a result they laughed and teased and said very malicious hurtful things to me. Said that I should have a mental assessment because I'm weird. Normal people don't dress up as animals. That hurt me that my family said such malicious things. I've been the ostrich all my life and now this makes it worse. But I'm NOT going to stop being who I am and I am not going to stop being in the fandom. I love being a furry and I love the people I have met.

Mort-Max is Absolutley right, but also, one other thing. What helps is you don't have you mention it unless you absolutley have to, it helps dodge these predicaments.
