I mean.. Component cables have two audio connections (the red and the white cable) but that's only for left/right, i.e. 2.1 audio which means you can't achieve 5.1 with that cable.

That's why I'm asking for a picture of the back of your DVD player, to see if there's even a 5.1 input on it.

See, the problem is that I can't help because I have no idea what type of cables your DVD uses or even in what whey they are configured. A simple picture of the back of your DVD player or a model number would help a lot because then I would know what it is you have to work with.

Kinda like trying to figure out the plot of a book without knowing anything more than that the title starts with "The".

You probably will need to, yes. It depends entirely on what inputs the DVD player has.

If the DVD player uses HDMI, you should probably be able to use that from your motherboard/graphics card although some implementations aren't that great. Otherwise if you can reconfigure your audio jacks on your motherboard (through driver software or BIOS) you should  be able to use those.

If neither of those options can be done, then you might wanna look at a cheapish soundcard.

Hmm.. hard to see the connection options although it doesn't seem like that DVD player can accept more than 2.1 for input.

The adapter you'll need to use is a simple 3.5mm > RCA

And where to those lead? To the speakers?
Do you mean that you want to unplug them from the DVD players and plug them into the PC or do you want to use those cables to connect the PC to the DVD player?

Then those would be only 2.1 and not 5.1.

As for using them with the PC, simply get one of those adapters I already mentioned and plug it into the green port at the pack of your motherboard.

The adapter you'll need to use is a simple 3.5mm > RCA

It looks like Timmy may have gotten a solution already.

I suggest getting the Asus Xonar 5.1 channel PCI card for $30.

It will boost your quality. crisper  sounds, deeper and more present bass, better contrast and less blending of the different frequencies.

The cable you will need, to my understanding is $3 on amazon ( eForCity 3.5mm to RCA Auxiliary Cable Cord for iPod/MP3 ).

It will have a 3.5 mm male end to plug into your computer and 2 av male ends to plug into your speaker system.

The sound card will connect to the headphone jack on the front of your pc (if you find the wire and plug it in). Then you can plug your speakers into that jack.

OR you can plug them directly into the card on the back of the PC, I believe you would use the "Front" labeled jack.

I would suggest not using the front panel! In most cases, the front panel output sounds much worse than the rear because the cable will be suspect to a lot of interference.

I think if you actually need a sound card, it's probably time to upgrade the entire PC. Any new motherboard puts a sound card to shame.
