Depends on what route.
But the car-lobby succeeded in constructing highways directly next to the trainlines, demolish city centres to build some inner-city highways, and every city recieved an airport.

How did they pay this? Simple.
They taxed the hell out of the railways, enforced prices so high trucks were way cheaper and mergers were blocked off.
Railroads started to fall apart, passengertrain after passengertrain got scrapped and the trainstations in the cities were demolished in favour of the car.

O, dear...

Well, I guess we did a similair thing...

In IJmuiden, we used to have a train line that went from the beech all the way to Santpoort-noord, but it in 1983 the NS stopped using the line, and the railway became abandoned.

Fast forward to 2017, and the abandoned railway has been removed, and replaced with a busline.

The busses. They're taking over...



Oh, [REDACTED] I found this picture, I used to play here as a kid!
