I have a pellet gun, I just can't bring myself to kill something without reason.
I would however like to go hunting at some point.

It's not for no reason :P Buggers are overpopulated. Get diseased, infect predators. Also they destroy property. Oh, and there's profit. So three reasons! :D
 
.177 pellet guns ae decent for small "varmint" game. I orginally got it for rabbit control. Then a coyote pack moved in and rendered it moot xD  But if you want to go hunting you should. Great experience. Easy to find local hunters who'll teach you which way is up, how to skin a kill, how to make a kill, et cetera. Some groups may even let you go with them. Also, cheap meat from an animal that lived a better life than the farm beeves.
 
'Course first you'll need a weapon. You have anything?
