Your fursona can be whatever you want it to be.
Most people do just make their fursona how they see themselves if they were an anthromorphic/ferel/mystical character.
-tt-, mine is just how I feel I'd look like if I were a demon, not even based on any particular animal, and it's still acceptable.
Even still, you don't need other people to confirm what's acceptable for you or not, just do what you feel. Whatever makes you happy.
