Coworkerproblems
« on: September 03, 2011, 04:29:18 AM »
Very upset! Recently, a coworker overheard a phone conversation while i was on break. talking to my gf about furry stuff and did not realize. that person has not told anyone yet but has threatened to if I don't cover her shift. She want to go to a concert, but I had serious plans that evening with my partner. Our anniversary is the following day and partner will be out of town then for a week so we chose to do it the day before. Given in would be forsaking what i am and my beliefs, but this is not something i share with anyone that is not the same. Please, if anyone has some advice about this let me know.

let her tell. What are they going to do? fire you for liking anthropomorphic animals? besides, if you give her this now, she'll keep on using it against you until it stops working. You could one up her by telling everyone yourself and not giving her the satisfaction of telling everyone.

it actually just occured to me to find some dirt on her and blackmail in return. that goes against what i believe in but i am so mad that's what i really want to do. you are right about that though. she is definately the type to use it over and over again.

Right?
Just tell her that you won't be playing that crap and that she can tell whoever the heck she wants.
Its like telling the boss "Guess what Jane does? She plays VIDEO GAMES! :o "

And don't try to re-blackmail her. That never works.

I work in an environment where a soap opera could be filmed. Seriously. The only way to  really deal with this is to just let her tell people. I went through something very similar and now the office knows I'm a furry. At first it was hard. I had to explain that it's not like CSI made it out to be and I still get the occasional smirk from male employees, but it has died down. There is gossip in every work environment and if you ignore it they will move on to the next topic/person and forget all about you and your "secret."

Yeesh, what a mess.

I'd say that you should approach your coworker, and tell her that you will work to get her shift covered by someone else, if anything.

Besides the obvious, "I don't want everyone knowing I'm a furry," answer is there any other reason why you are so worried about anyone else knowing? Could it potentially damage your future career reputation?

Nobody at my old office knew I was furry but I did receieve flak for being gay. My attitude? Who cares? It's just work, it's not that huge if a part of your life and if they give you flak, hold your head high and say "screw you I am what I am!"

I REALLY like this idea because from then she can't use that against you, and it keeps her from trying again. ALSO you shouldn't be scared of what your other coworkers think, because if they harass you that IS a probable cause for termination. If your manager doesn't respond in the correct way, take it to the higher ups, because they WILL. Corporations don't like having bad reps. It costs them money.
