For the sake of finding out how different people react to a situation I am posting a similar RP idea on several forums to see what happens. Characters are restricted to fantasy abilities and equipment (at least to start out with, my RP's tend to mutate on occasion)

An ancient civilization at its technological peak comes under attack from an equally powerful enemy. As their enemy closes in around them the people gather around a portal that has existed since the beginning of their civilization. Their leader opened the portal and it admitted them into another dimension.

A crater formed under the portal and the city fell into it, never to be seen again...Until now...


Setting: The characters wake up in the ruins of an ancient city that has fallen into a crater over two-hundred feet deep. There are various technologies that the characters cant make sense of ranging from weapons to computer consoles. The only way out is a portal in a room that was sealed shut when the city collapsed and that seems to have some sort of guardian (one of the enemies of the civilization who built the city who became trapped but cannot use the portal for some reason).

Objective: The characters must survive various monsters who have become trapped in the pit with them. They must also find some way of opening the room with the portal and defeating the creature within. Other things like finding food and water would also be good ideas.

perhaps, but I got 2 questions.

The crater is so deep that we would be trapped inside the city?

Define fantasy abilities and equipment, like magic or what?

Yes the crater is so deep we are trapped inside the city. There are caves leading into the crater but they lead farther under ground.

Magic, swords, magic swords...Fantasy as in non Sci Fi...No guns, kevlar, etc... Not entirely sure how to put it which is why I said "fantasy" in the first place :P But stull along the lines of The Lord of the Rings or Dragonlance sort of stuff.

I'll allow for just about any species. If a flying one though then I'm going to need to figure out a reason they don't just fly out.

Appearance: long, black, wavy hair, silver grey eyes(she is blind), extremely beautiful and fit, silvery, form fitting robes, silver white cloak w/hood
Belongings: a small silver bag filled with medicine and plants. a large dagger at her belt hip, a beautiful, simple, triple moon (stone) tiara only the high priestess can wear.

Personality: kind, gentle, stern, understanding, calm, stubborn, can fend for herself even though she is blind
History: Ariya has been blind since birth, but since infancy, she has been trained hard as a priestess of the Moon. she became high Priestess of her temple at the age of 18. now twenty, she is extremely wise. she was born an 'old soul' as they say. over the years, she has become rather accustomed to seeing with her heart, she can 'see' things an average person may not.
Personal: a deceased mother who died a year ago.

Racial traits: ummm...she is half human, half...animal. even though she is human with snow leopard ears and tail.
Skills, spells and abilities: she is a healer, can heal any wound, cure any disease. she is also a wisdom keeper. even though she is blind, she is very scholarly. she is very skilled with daggers. her senses besides her sight is highly advanced, especially her hearing. she recognizes things by how things feel, taste and smell.

Appearance: Scar across left eye, torn right ear, grey fur coat.
Belongings: chain mail chest, legs, gloves and boots. Round shield and morning star (spiked ball mace)

Personality: Very protective of the down trodden, quiet and reserved
History: While serving as a royal guard, Macid was attacked during a convoy, causing him to lose his right ear and left eye. Having been dismissed from the guard, he continued to help anyone he could, weather it was escorting a noble to another town, or helping an old woman. After helping a wizard return to his castle, he was even taught a minor fireball spell for lighting fires and scaring small animals.
Personal: none

Racial traits: Powerful hind legs help him jump higher than other races. Damaged eye and ear reduce hearing and sight. Bipedal.
Skills, spells and abilities: standard "Warrior" abilities. Minor Fireball spell.

Hows that? anything I need to change?

@ Macid: Some more detail would be nice. Is it safe to assume he's bipedal? I'm not overly picky when it comes to bio's as long as the character isn't a Mary Sue.

I was waiting for someone to ask :P I have a character in mind who I need to modify a bit. I'll be editing this post with it some time soon (next hour or so)

When I get bored I write character bio's...

Name: Kiff Do'kose (spirit name) Jorun (wolf hosts name)
Gender: Male
Age Range: 2000+ years
Race: Spirit Wolf (a light spirit that takes control of the body of a willing host-in this case wolf-before it dies and the hosts spirit moves on. The hosts body is usually controlled for no more then a few decades before the spirit leaves it, normally after completing the task it took mortal form for in the first place. During that time the Spirit regenerates the body continuously to keep it alive and as undamaged as possible.
After the Spirits mission is complete the body is brought to the original host spirit who either continues on its path to it after life or it requests to be reincarnated.
In Kiff's case, he was bound to the wolf's body by a Demon. Because of this he will never be able to leave it.)
Appearance: In his normal form, Kiff appears to be a large grey wolf ( 5' 6" long and 3' tall at the shoulders and 80 pounds) with a soft, thick, white coat and intelligent blue eyes. But when in spirit form he looks far different.
In spirit form, Kiff nearly doubles in size, his eyes blaze with blue fire. Rune armor covers his shoulders and a glowing blue crystal is fixed into a silver collar he wears around his neck.
Belongings: Kiff has very little. He has his rune armor and collar but other than that he has nothing.

Personality: Kiff is very protective of his friends and will do whatever it takes to keep them out of harms way.
History: Exiled from his pack after losing a challenge to the alpha of his former pack, Jorun; a large grey wolf, lay dying in the snow. Little did he know that his future was being contested in the spirit world.
Kiff Do'kose, a light spirit, was battling a fire demon over possession of the wolf's mind. The demon happened to be Kiff's older brother, Dren Do'kose. They both wished to use the wolf as a way of acting on the mortal plane of existence. Kiff planned to help the mortal forces of light in a battle against the forces of darkness, Dren wanted to help the forces of darkness.
Kiff finally won control of the wolf from his brother and was able to heal it, but Dren caused the fire demons to band together to place a curse on him. The curse would bind him to the wolf till either his death or he turned to darkness. When the other light spirits realized his predicament, they placed a powerful warding spell on him that would prevent the fire demons from attacking him unless they to took mortal form. There was a catch though. Kiff would be cut off almost entirely from the spirit realm. The other light spirits could do nothing for him on the mortal plane.
Bound in mortal form, Kiff was weaker than in his non corporeal state but still powerful. Several darkness and fire demons tried to kill his physical body, but because of the spirits intervention they had to become mortal before they could attack him directly. To avoid making themselves mortal and therefor vulnerable, the demons created a race of deadly fiend warriors known as the Doom Wardens and unleashed them on the world to hunt Kiff. Though they were less powerful than the demons who created them, the Doom Wardens were more than a match for the spirit trapped in wolf form and nearly killed him when he first encountered one them and escaped death only thanks to a group of skilled adventurers who were passing at the time and were able to drive it off.
It was still early on in his exile from the spirit realm. Kiff did his best to interact with the various mortals he met but was limited to communicating through mental images which were not always understood. The adventurers who rescued him from the Doom Warden brought him to a nearby village where he stayed while he recovered from his wounds.
Now Kiff is a Rune Paladin (Rune Warrior crossed with Paladin) who does his best to protect those who need it.
Personal: Kiff has few friends but he choses them carefully. His only family is Dren who is his sworn enemy.

Racial traits: In normal wolf form, Kiff has the ability of a healthy grey wolf. In spirit form he is far stronger than any normal wolf and can access his magic.
Skills, spells and abilities: Kiff has the powers of a high level light mage. He can cast some rather difficult spells and use strong light based attacks and defenses but only for a short time (a couple minutes at most) before requiring rest, he can use weaker spells for longer periods without rest.
He is a capable melee fighter but is limited by his form and so normally prefers to use his magic only. When he does lay aside his magic in a fight he tries to dodge past his opponents attacks and grab their neck or limbs if possible so he can drag them down.
He can also switch between wolf and spirit form at will.
His armor is generated by the collar he wears and can be made to cover his entire body but he is unable to dodge as easily and his armor does not provide .

If you reached the bottom of this character sheet without stopping then you win a free bottle of eye drops to rehydrate your eyes.

I modifyed mine a bit. Bipedal, yes, and added in that after helping a wizard he was taught a minor fireball spell. Let me know if theres anything else I need to add/change.

Race: anthro lace monitor
Appearance: black scales with a pale yellow underbelly and eyes. he normally wears only torn long pants, a torn shirt and a thick leather collar with vine engravings and about half a foot of broken chain still attached.
Belongings: his collar.

Personality: calm, helpfull, quiet, loyal and willing to follow any orders but can anger easily if right circumstances
History: as a young boy serpington was captured and turned into a loyal slave under the slave name durako. he learnt many things and even was able to learn the written language of his masters fully rather than just part of the spoken language like the slaves are normally taught. but his happy enslavement was cut short by his masters slaughter. he escaped and now lives out his life with a vow of silence till he finds a new master to fill his void.
Personal: all dead

Racial traits: can summon an energy bow as a weapon and track people using his senses and high stamina/durability
Skills, spells and abilities: naturally flexable, energy bow, and enhance senses naturally durable
