I was playing Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead earlier, and well, all day Friday and Saturday, I practiced basically everything by setting up little challenges for myself in the editor. I can now fly jets, though I still need to practice dogfighting. I can fly choppers, though I can still use some work in the attacking portion. I'm good at everything in tanks and other variations of armor. My driving skills are pretty good, but not as good as with an armored vehicle.
All that said, I put my skills to the test today with my buddy Troi, who **censor** rules at this game. We were securing a Hind on the map, that crazy ass Russian attack helicopter that was a boss in Metal Gear Solid. We had a t-90, so as the main gunner, I wiped out the crowds with High Explosive rounds, and finished off the little guys around the area with the machine gun. Tracking the last one, Troi got out, and the AI managed to kill him for once. That left me alone... on a mission that was likely marked by enemy players. I had the T-90, but still. I parked it inside the mission base, and took to the gun.
Six players all came after me to get the Hind, all with weapons that could damage the tank. Guy entered the base with a MAAWS, I hit a Hesco barrier with an HE shell and killed him. His buddy had an RPG 7 and hit me twice with it, but it's pretty much useless. I let him go, but he had a humvee with Tow missiles (Anti Tank missiles). I threaded a needle and killed him before he got a hit on me. First time I take damage is from something with a 30 mil cannon set to armor piercing. Took out my right track and nearly took out my engine. I wasn't needing them, since I was just waiting for Troi to come back and have us both take the hind. Guy was on a hill almost a kilometer and a half out, hidden by trees. I managed to track the guy and destroy his vehicle. Knock out four players. After that, I made two Little Bird helicopters crash by scaring the shit out of them with machinegun fire. One right into the mountainside because he tried to maneuver and failed, another by killing his engine and making him jettison, only for him to fail his parachute deployment and die.
Feels good finally mastering something like this.
