I noticed something similair during early elementary school.
It was completely normal that none of the kids showered after P.E, and nobody thought anything of it, but then the teacher obligated it.
I was one of the only kids who just simply refused to shower in that disgusting ruin of a P.E building, and just had a shower back at home. But because it was suddenly obligated to shower, and almost everyone of the kids did it there, I suddenly the dirty, unhygenic kid, simply because I didn't shower at the builing. Even tough, prior to that, nobody showered there after P.E at all...
I do, in retrospect, think it's kinda funny how I already could determine the B.S of human society, as a little 8 year old kid... That's weird...
Ah, well, I was a weird one in elementary school.
