Just got my new Cosmic Encounter set in the mail today, and my little
secret is out.  One of my powers is now an official Cosmic Encounter
Power!  I noticed familiar names of other contributors as well.  My
contribution is Hacker which is my Violin power that was beefed up a
bit from playtest.  They originally wanted to call it Haggler, but I
didn't think that was a good fit.  I suggested Hacker and so it is.


I only skimmed it for now, but I did notice a few things.  They have
Technology which Mayfair tried to do but failed.  I played Mayfair's
technology in a convention playtest and didn't like it.  It took too
long to get any use out of it, and the game ended before anyone got
any technology.  I noticed the Timing Conflict rule was altered a
bit.  No biggie, and I understand the change.  With a smirk, I noticed
they give powers an "experience" rating of novice, intermediate, and
expert.  I wonder where they got that idea.  I'm also glad they
adopted the Mayfair rule of reestablishing a home base on an empty
planet in your system if you draw your own color in Destiny.  Eon
didn't have that.


It'll take a while to get used to the new terminology - colony instead
of bases, ships instead of tokens, artifact instead of edict,
negotiate instead of compromise.  I'm likely to keep referring to the
original terms for a long time to come.


Only 50 powers.  Leaves lots of room for expansions!  Hopefully more
of my powers will make it.  Something complicated like Serling or
Galactica probably wouldn't, but I do have simple ones like Scoop.  I
think even Clown would make a good fit.  I can always dream someday my
Pulsars get in.
