Coming from a farming community environment, animals were always more purpose based, rather than affection. Dogs were meant to warn of any ill willed presence on your property, cats kill gophers and birds, fish were more about display than care, and so forth. Coyotes were always open season along with seagulls, crows, pigeons, swallows, and woodpeckers.
