Hehe, I take it you've never been around a suppressed rifle. They arent quiet. And low-velocity munitions are necesary, which dont ally themselves to extreme range accuracy. Not fun for the "sniper"- although I still prefer the more appropriate term of designated marksman.
I still find it hilarious that Hiram Maxim developed what was undoubtedly the loudest toy on the battlefield, but his sun designed the first operational suppressor.
A simple baffle and mesh design still used for cheap suppressors today, mind you. He built 'em well.
