As a physicist and philosopher (not as a job but I like physics and philosophy) generally we sorta do, it doesn't make much sense but time is just something we made to make sense of the universe, there is no real time or days, we have given days and time a more worldly attachment then we were supposed to. So if you really want to work into it there is no such thing as a day in whole, but if your just thinking about what your saying there sorta is more than 7 days, there is an infinitely expanding amount of days. Now think about how it would be if we just followed this and we were still not finished a "week" yet.

I understand that there is really no such thing as a day but staying in the box for once, things would seem longer if every ones things were planned on a 8 day time frame. Also, things would be seen differently.
