^^^Eye for an eye is how I go. Though for animals, I would say Eye for a half.

^^If it was someone I knew, then maybe. But I don't really know anyone who's worth saving except maybe my mother. But if it meant saving a bunch of starving people, or even starving animals, sure I would put my life on the line for many.
