What makes a furry? Or a scale-y(?) for that matter?
« on: January 21, 2007, 05:29:37 PM »
I've always pondered that question. Is a neko a furry? What makes it so? Is there a kind of discrimination between furries and the like?   ??? I'd love to know.
Anthropomorphic fox or kitsune?

All Animals can be Furries, even mythological ones
ones with Scales are called Scalies, like our friend on the forums Scalie, those include reptiles, and dragons  :dragon: and I think fish too
I don't know what birds are called
nor do I know what we call octopi

And we don't descriminate anything, even the humans.

What makes a fury is what's on the inside. It's not neccisarily if you have a furry skin on IMVU. I liked lizards and cats and all animals when I was a child, and like crusty, I just realized this year what it meant. =3
As far as discrimination: There isn't any with me. Â I like any furry or scalie or whatever it may be; as long as they aren't too terrribly ignorant.

Why I wanted to be a furry:
When I was little, my Nan found a stray kitten sitting on the wall of her garden. So basically we grew up together. He was my first friend. And I was jealous of his cattyness. The extreme agility, a tail, pointy ears and most of all; his pretty soft grey fur. I wanted to be a cat. So I used to dress up as one. Later on; well about three months ago, I found out this meant you are a furry. And I always felt alone and thought I was just weird. But now there's a whole forum of you guys. So I'm happy. =^.^=

well the reason I'm a furry is well...for the longest time I felt better around animals, wolves and foxes especially, I always found myself staring at pics of either or, wondering: what is it like? And so I looked on the internet, (this was years before I got on imvu) and discovered the furry fandom, I read countless stories, comics, everything I could find on furriness(with the exception of the dreaded Y.I.F.F) and from then on I've just been one. And as crustybread said, it's not easy finding this out when everyone around ya isn't. I literally had no furry friends at the time cuz well...I admit it, I was shy :peek:, but oh well, that was then, this is now. I have no stuff to dress up as a fur, no art talent to draw furries, but as long as we can see it inside ourself, thats what makes a true furry(lol, corney, I know)

In a nutshell Furry basicly stands for any animal that has some human abilities/likeness. Like a talking animal would be considered furry. If you want to get really nitty gritty

Anthro- Animals with human likeness, walking on two legs, hair on their heads, pretty much people here
Were - More animalstic, still humanish in some ways, only difference is they tend to be bipedal, and can walk on two legs but prefer 4. Most well known Were Wolves

Feral - Wild animal, can be senitent (have clear human like speech) Normaly 4 legged, unless they are an animal who only has two, or happens to be a bug, or something with no legs.

Personaly I would NOT consider a Neko a furry, cause they are only humans with some animal parts. A Naga is something of its own, as well as a centar. And a few of thoes other mythical creatures.

To me I felt that desiring something that you just can't have was irristable.  And the fact that if you finally got what you wanted, you only wanted to get rid of it.  Could you imagine turning into a half animal only to realize that you'll be the only anthro around?
There is a difference between what is normal, and what is accepted.

meh i think what makes a furry is how you yourself would define a furry because let's face it everyone has there own opinion on the subject so i think that you should be able to see furry they way you want to see it. :/

I decided to become a furry for some of the same reasons as some of you: I've been around animals since birth when my father had a familiar..and I've always been around cats...odd that I seem to switch skins between kitsunes and lionesses, though....I'm a Leo...and I have an affinity for the lupine kind as well.
Anthropomorphic fox or kitsune?
