The Witch of Salem
« on: October 16, 2008, 12:00:55 AM »
Word of mouth has passed down the story of Sarah Craw, the old witch of Salem. The TRUE witch of Salem, Massachusetts;

She lives in an old shack next door to Joseph Prat. She has served as nanny to most of the woman of Salem, hiding the fact that she blesses the babies with assorted charms form her collection. Her eyes are a stormy grey, full of hatred for many. The women she blesses live healthily like their babies, with one exception; the babies develop a small star on their forehead. Goody Prat has given birth to seven children, all with Craw's help. Sarah is envied by the daughter of Goody Glendale, Sarah's own 'hellcat'. Lydia hates Sarah with a passion few can understand, as does Sarah of her.

Sarah Craw was nowhere near beautiful, she had the lust level of a troll. It was her amazing intelligence that drew most of her suitors to her. She took one every few years because they would mysteriously disappear. Her eyes were the color of burnt honey, a cold amber melting to golden yellow near the center; her pupils blacker than black. Flowing black hair faded to red then down to yellow at the tips, oddly alluring but at the same time, strange for her time. She represented a different kind of woman, one who was just getting started.

Ok, this is aggravating, but whatever. Faith is hard to come by. Apparently this is a bore so I'll chill it for a while, I've got nothing but details to ramble about. >.<

When she lost herself in the woods on Friday, October 13th, no one cared to search for her. She was just another woman of many in the town of Salem. Her only surviving child, Maul, was nowhere to be found either. No one cared for her at all, not even her mother.  Maul's only job when she was around Sarah was to fulfill every one of Sarahs' orders. She hated it, but knew why she had to be the one to do those meaningless chores. They had no reason, no order, just random orders Sarah barked at her because she could. Lord above, how Maul hated her mother.

Pulling the massive cauldron out of the ugly birch shed behind the even uglier pine cottage she lived in with Sarah, Maul set it up next to the downstairs window that led to the kitchen sink. When the fire was started, the water bubbling, and the beginning potion smoking, she went back into the house. Walking into her room, she changed into an old gown with a dark apron attached to start her first real potion. Grabbing the vials of weird named ingredients from Sarah's closet as she trotted past, Maul stopped at the doorway to the kitchen.

Muttering, she tucked the vials into the front pocket of  her apron, struggling to remember everything. Her eyes narrowed as she tucked her hair back behind her with a bland ribbon. She took out a large bowl filled with ugly black mush, called iglan, she placed it next to the sink, mentally checking it off her list. Putting each colored vial beside the bowl carefully, she left them there. Her heart beat softly in her ears, melodic as she listened to the birds chirping. Opening the fridge, Maul took out the only other thing, a weird shaped container.

She mixed everything in the bowl then dumped it into the cauldron through the window above the sink.

Thanks. I'll try.

The cauldron uttered a massive howl, a bright red pillar of fire leaping up then dissipating. Maul smirked. "Good. Ye be going well.." She murmured, poking her head out the window and looking into the cauldron, the bubbles a sickly green. Her eyes flashed brilliant red. Mum's probably scoutin' the woods... She'll be back. Maul assured herself, she may hate Sarah, but Sarah was still her mother...

Sarah was wandering the woods alright, but not as her daughter thought she was. Her long, black tail flicked with curiosity. There were so many new smells to investigate now. Her feline eyes watched everything, her ears hearing everything. She smirked, fangs showing as she trotted to the edge of a clearing, amazed at the sight of three little girls dancing around a cauldron. She walked up, purring as she rubbed against the tallest one's leg.

"Awe, how cute!" The girl exclaimed. Her two friends came over and started scratching Sarah's chin and back.

"Aye, she is cute. Pretty kitty! What's her name?" The smallest asked, giggling as Sarah licked her hand.

"I don't know.. What do you want her to be?"

"How bout Anna?" The little one asked, smiling.

"No, Cara. What do you think about the name Honey?" The middle one asked, giggling.

"Ok, Honey it is!" She replied, smiling wider. She tickled Sarah's chin some more, giggling as she purred.

Maul grumbled something illegible to herself, walking to the cauldron and poking a metal spoon in. Pulling it back out, she nodded her head, after those few seconds, the spoons was eaten by the potion. She shook her head, muttering incoherently.

She finished the potion, eyes bright. Her fingers were numb as she placed them in the cauldron. I hope I did this right... She thought, pulling her fingers back out and smiling. They weren't there anymore, she could feel them, but they were now a deep black, so dark as to be invisible.  Her eyes flickered with distaste. She knew she could do better.

The feeling of being watched sent a ripple of apprehension down her spine as her pale skin clouded with lavender spots. The effects were starting to kick in. She bit back a horrified moan as her fingers clenched then unclenched, nails ripping through to turn into jagged claws. A headache traveled all the way around her head, screaming agonizingly as folds of skin began to bubble out, forming six inch ears covered in albino fur. A savage howl ripped through her clenched jaws, a tail bursting through the seat of her dress. She roared in agony, curling into a ball on the ground as neon white hairs forced their way out along every inch of her skin. Shivering, she whimpered as the last remnants of the transformation set in. She was now a monster, covered in fur and uglier than anything she'd ever experienced. Her finger were paws, her legs that of a wolf's.

Maul felt terrible, she was a disgrace...

(Gotta go, I'll edit it when i get home, I'm at school right now. >.<)

Very interesting so far. I have to agree with Tezz about your naming choices: excellent!
I would very much like to see where this is going. I hope you find the time and inspiriation to continue it. :)
The farewell was premature. My definite stay is not definite. The constants are variable. The greeting was too late.

Her ears flattened, a crimson wave rushing along her cheeks. She curled into as small a ball as she could, still whimpering. "I'm so ugly..." She murmured, feeling every  inch with the intention of pulling the hair out. Growling, Maul shivered with fear, afraid to move and give herself away as she heard the footfalls of another.
