Flames' time was running out, one way or another. He had 3 options:
1) Survive somehow and continue as if nothing happened.
2) Die a pathetic death...
3) Die an incredible death, one with meaning, doing the impossible!
Option 1 was going to be difficult, 3 would normally be done during an epic battle and 2 wasn't even worth thinking about...
