I frustrat myself sometimes
« on: March 12, 2017, 03:22:49 AM »
Sometimes I get so frustrated with myself. I'm not a very social person. By this, I mean that I am pretty bad at making friends, keeping up with people and just socializing in general. I have a very bad habit of going for days or even weeks without talking to others. I almost never leave the house unless we need to go out. I also avoid talking with people I don't know. I just have a fear that they won't like me or that I'll upset them in some way. I'm not as bad as I used to be but, I'm still pretty bad at it. I used to go into chat rooms and I'd just sit there and not say anything. I still do that sometimes because I'm not very fast at typing and I'm not super good at keeping a conversation going. I'm also pretty bad at making small talk. But, I still get lonely and bored and choose to do almost nothing about it. This is sort of an attempt to open up and try to make some friends. I'll admit, this forum is a bit intimidating to me because there are so many threads and so many people here. But, I know I have much more to loose by staying quiet. I'm still trying to get used to not coming and going so, please bear with me. Hopefully, I can get better at this whole socializing thing and get better at being a friend. I guess that time will tell, right?

Well, first off, hello and welcome!

I know all too well how you must be feeling. In fact, I can safely say that it's just about exactly how I am and am currently feeling, so you're certainly not alone on this. However, I might even argue that, through posting this, you're already making more of an effort to achieve your goals than me. :P

I feel that you've definitely made a good decision in joining up here. From my experience, the forum, whilst rather intimidating, is largely comprised of many understanding, kind individuals willing to talk and likely tolerate your individual quirks. As for advice, all I can advise you to do, really, is continue trying, even if some of your attempts seem to not result in anything much. I would also argue that -particularly if you're more hesitant to post on some threads - it's not a bad idea to spend some time updating your profile so that curious passers-by can get to know the specifics of you a little better; after all, what is there to say to someone you don't know anything about? Basically, just be yourself, take opportunities when they arise, and continue to make attempts in spite of how difficult it may prove. Believe me, you will later come to regret the possibilities that you avoided, and that will only further hurt your confidence.

I know that all of this sounds like quite a challenge, but I hope that, given time and perseverance, you'll be able to find your way past it. :)

Lastly, I understand how helpful it can be to have someone to speak to during such a time as this. So, if you need such a person, you're absolutely welcome to talk to me, whether for simple conversation or venting; I don't mind either.  ^_^

I hope all goes well for you!

Welcome to the forum! And Same here... I hear a lot of people are like that here though XD, so we're all in this together. And remember, be open to say what you want to say,  this is online, even if you did tick off someone, it's not like people are going to come knocking at your door the next day coming from the other side of the country saying that you said something 'inconsiderate'. I hope. And don't worry about the coming and going, there are a lot of times, people leave and come back due to various circumstances! So don't worry about it! Have fun and most of all be yourself!
