Is it okay to have the opposing gender fursona?
« on: July 18, 2016, 03:41:13 PM »

King jest for example, I'm female irl but have a male fursona.
The reason is... mm... boys..
Anyway, Jest is who I WANT to be.
Carefree,
friendly,
always having a big smile,
away from my depression problems with euphoria.
Him being male has nothing to do with that.
In your opinion, would it be ok to have something that representing you to be the sexual opposite?

Why not? You're definitely not alone. There's plenty of people who have opposite sexed fursonas on here, including myself.
The character I've been using as a fursona is based on a story character of mine who I have a lot in common with, but more "idealized", so to speak. He's not a big ball of sunshine and has plenty of flaws that reflect my own, but he also has traits I wish I had. I didn't create him to lust over, though I do find him appealing (not in a "wanna make-out/diddle with" way), probably because I wrote him in a fashion I deeply relate to. The mind is weird.

But yeah, fursonas can be whatever you want them to be. It's for fun, after all.

Nothing wrong with having the opposite sex for a fursona. If anyone tells you other wise their just upsetti spaghetti because they have to complain about small stuff like that.

Definitely not, I have an OC named Devin. He isn't anything related to me, or someone I want to be but a simple character I use in a few roleplays on this forum.

I think it's no prob. Main chars that appear in my stories or my RP chars have both genders as well!
Let me tell you, my Aura Kingdom avi is female. While my real me is male.
See? It doesn't matter. Not for any char.

TLDR: yes, of course.

To be a bit more detailed, I will say if your planning to RP, don't make a character who is DEFINED by being male. by the sounds of it you already have a character planned, stick with this character when you switch the gender, don't change it to be more masculine unless the setting he is in demands said change.
I'm saying this because all too often I have seen RP characters who are "Delicate flowers, who feel really lonely and desperately need love and affection!!!!", each and every one of them has been a female OC played by a male player. Its honestly a kinda sickening trend. Obviously your going the other way, but I have no doubt there is an equivalent male stereotype.

Still, if your able to make a character without stereotypes bogging you down? Go nuts. ^_^ The sky is the limit with Fursonas

It's JEST FINE To have an opposite gendered fursona, You just have to know how to execute them well, And be able to flesh out their pesonality withou relying omg gender stereotypes.

Aka: What angder has already said.
Thoughts are like arrows: once released, they strike their mark, guard them well or one day you may be your own victim.

It's no problem at all. It isn't like having an alternate-ego online is anything new these days (see all the men playing as women in World of Warcraft or pretty much any MMO, for instance).
