While I was looking around DeviantArt for stamps to put on my profile and checking Tumblr occasionally, I see this: someone admitting they have some kind of personal problem or illness, and then either being praised for being brave enough to admit it or called an attention-whore.
Yes, people DO lie on the Internet for attention because they're sick bastards who treat peoples' childhoods, lifestyles, mental situations, and habits as copy-and-paste, five-minutes-of-fame status updates. But just as you can't prove they aren't lying, you can't prove that they are, either. Besides, how to you establish the probability of someone lying for attention, if you can't prove that they are in the first place? I guess you could prove an image of DSH a person claims as theirs came from Google Images, but that's about as far as you could go, and what do you do if they don't have visible proof?
The people who claim that everyone is an attention-seeker are the reason I can't speak up against the people who are bullying me, or tell anyone anything else that is troubling me. Whenever I tell anyone IRL, they say 'they're just kids' or 'I'll talk to them later' and they never do. And I never feel comfortable telling anyone online because they're just as un-supportive as the 'authority figures'.
Then there's the argument that 'if you're a white, middle-class American with a functional family you have no reason to be depressed or to cut'.
Last time I checked depression doesn't care about your race, gender, religion, or economic status. It can affect anyone and everyone.
There are no 'requirements' you have to meet.
I'm so sick of being treated like shit and called an attention-seeker, the same people calling me those things are the same ones wondering why so many teenagers are still committing suicide each year.
I know this rant is kind of choppy but I have bad English when I get angry. I really just want to scream.
