I heard of Krav Maga before, I've been told it's similar to karate but I don't know if my source was reliable.

Its similar in the sense that its based mostly on self-defense, the mentality of attack is also similar. They teach you to do as much damage as quickly as possible to your opponent and that there is no such thing as dirty fighting, in fact, we spent the better part of a day in training learning the best way to kick somebody in the nuts. Im not kidding  :|
