I liked that more than I like most of what people listen to nowadays (Although i don't know what time period it's from.


There are a lot of songs that I love, but this is probably one of my favorites simply because of the history surrounding it. It was first written in 1915 as a poem, and was first recorded as a song by Lale Anderson in 1939. However, the one most famous for singing this song is Marlene Dietrich, who performed for the German soldiers. She would later go on to move to the US and return to Europe with the US troops as they pushed into Germany. A very popular and well known song on both sides in the war, even the British soldiers fighting in North Afrika despite the fact it was in German.

Just so everyone knows, I'm not a nazi. I'm strictly a reenactor. I portray the average everyday soldier, not the anti semetic SA member. The German soldiers deserve just as much respect as the American ones. They too were just young boys, scared and fighting in a foreign land, far from home.

Nice suggestion, an interesting piece of history there and although I'm not the biggest fan of wartime songs this has my respect.

The Andante from this suite always makes me think of frosty winter mornings, icy lakes, red berries and winter wildlife.
