I hate those people who say 'Native American culture is so beautiful and mysterious" without actually knowing the people and the oppression they are in right now in America on reservations.
But I really hate it when people get uptight about the way certain ideas are brought to light, like power animals. My sister says we're 'exploiting' that culture because 'white girls' see dolphins in their dreams and think that it MUST have some extremely deep meaning and that it was sent to guide them.
Power animals are a key factor in indigenous cultures, and it's very important to the Native people. However, there is nothing wrong with a non-Native person finding that idea to be attractive and finding it meaningful to them, as long as they understand the true meaning and its origin, as well as the state that Native cultures are in right now. There's nothing wrong with liking an ideology and researching it--I do it in English class all of the time.
