Never say never. I've partially torn ligaments and tendons twice in the past two years in my ankle. Not only am I running, I'm going Marine Corps infantry. Both times surgery was almost needed (and my doc sees surgery as a last option to be heavily avoided), but evaded. I'm not as good as I once was, but I can still do it. Just make sure not to start too fast.
