Okay... So now the explanation of the word, or the Dutch translation?

Well a portmanteau is a new word made by combining two existing words, whereas a neologism is simply a brand new word.
I think technically a portmanteau is actually a type of neologism.
In Dutch... I don't know. But a translator might have trouble because portmanteau also means a large travel bag.

A portmanteau is a word made from combining other words.
Afraid + Amazed = Afrazed
Chuckle + Snort = Chortle
And quite a common example on furry-anything
Fox + Wolf = Folf
Wolf + Dragon = Wolgon
Cat + Dragon = Cagon

Aah, I see now. Just like my made-up word "rainshadow", which is pretty much what you expect it to be.

Technically I think it's only a portmanteau if the words aren't used in full. So the term for rainshadow is a compound word.
Rainshadow is actually a term. I know because I live in one. So I'm curious if your meaning is the same.

Not quite... The way I was thinking was an area outdoors where you can take shelter for rain, snow and stuff like that. Kinda like what a normal shadow is when you use a light or when the sun is shining, but then with rain.

Ah I see, I live where clouds go over my house but dump their rain before or afterwards. So much like with light it's the area which doesn't get touched rather than the thing which blocks the light. Perhaps rainshade? Actually I rather like that as s character name!
Hmmm...

Can't it be a word with more than one meaning? We have enough of those in English language!

Definitely!
Actually, the more I think about it to more I think it still works. Because it's the area under the shelter which is the shadow.
I like words.

Pronunciation on the other hand...

It ticks me off when some English people whine about Americans having different words/spellings/pronunciations for stuff. "Oh no, dialects are evolving like in any other language, wow, Americans sure are stupid!"
As someone who has a decent bit of interest in linguistics, just... No.

Just because you replace and with und and add ja at the end doesn't make it a German accent.
Unless that's why it's poor...

I did think it in a poor German accent, but poor German accents are kinda hard to write out... You should hear how I use it sometime.
