The point I'm trying to make is simple. If we were the only two in the race the results would be like this:
If you cross the finish line without accidents, you win from me.
If you have an accident, I can take as long as I want to cross the finish line as long as I don't get an accident.
If, for some reason, there was a problem with the racing car without you having an accident, I can still finish before you do if you don't get it fixed in time. If you do get it fixed in time, you're good to go until the next problem occurs or until you have an accident.

That's true. Most of how the race would go depends on how fast you drive and how long the racing track is.
