Galen saw a light ahead. Not a steady glow, but rather a soft flicker, only present long enough to assure its existance befroe extinguishing. He moved closer, only to find that whatever the source of the light was, it had disappeared. Replacing the small flicker of warm light was a rustle, first in the bushes, then in the branches, suddenly in the leaves directly above. Looking upwards, bowstring pulled taut, Galen saw nothing at first. Within an instant, there was a screech, and a creature, indeterminate in its appearance due to the dark, dropped downwards towards Galen from the trees above. He barely managed to step aside as the small light he had seen before erupted from this strange creatures mouth, quickly forming a blaze a meter in diameter where he had been standing. In the fire, he saw the creature. It was a bit smaller than a German shephard, white along its belly, face, and its tail, and a light orange along its entire back. Its claws were long, but seemed to be more for climbing than for hunting, and its five curled horns were striped ivory and onyx. The thick, prehensile tail swayed back and forth as it noticed its failed attempt at incinerating Galen. These motions were ended abruptly by the brand new arrow sticking out of its head, just at the top of the bridge of the creature's snout. Galen waited for the surrounding earth to cool before claiming his arrow and his kill, and soon ater he climbed the nearest tree and started his flight over the forest to the derelict ship he used as tonight's shelter.
