OK
So.
Recently at my work (a highschool), I've been told that I'll be getting the Technical Director of Events position. This means that I'll be in charge of basically all Lighting and Sound done in the school, for events, assemblies, graduation, etc, both the actually running of, and financing of anything involved.
That being said, I'm taking a much more active role when it comes to the Drama Club in the school. My first and foremost concern is making sure the kids get the best stuff they can.
Now, the director for the club is a friend of mine, for more than five years. I've worked with her for the last two concerts she's done, as well. As time has been going on though, she's become much less receptive to my input, and much more... bossy over me, so to speak. For example, last weekend, call time for the final dress rehearsal of the concert was at 4, though I technically didn't have to be there for it. Something went down with my family, so I didn't get there until 4:15. Upon entering, she nearly scolded me like one of her students, and then told me to "Get to where I have to be, so we can start."
Now, I'm an adult, I'm not even two years younger than her, so that right there really urks me, especially since I technically hold a real position, where she just gets a stipend for doing this almost as a "volunteer." But I was already in a down mood, so I shrugged it off.
Well, today she was in a big hissy over budgeting for the school play, and I tried to offer her advice. I know how the school budget system works, and how to play the game. My dad has worked there for as long as I've been alive, and I've had to hear about it all the time.
Instead of taking the time to listen to what I had to say, she would cut me off after every few seconds to tell me how whatever I was saying either wasn't going to work, or wouldn't benefit her at all, without letting me even finish or get to the point. And when I eventually told her to be quiet and listen, she just rolled her eyes with an "Ugh", let me finish, but didn't even really listen and continued to complain about my idea, even though it was *the only option.* She expects to get all this money from the school, just by asking the Superintendent, when he's neither in a position to give said money, nor does *any* just get random grants of money.
And then she later blows up on me about it.
My problem is, this is someone that I have to work with three-quarters of the school year. And I'm not about to say "Someone else can take over" because there's no one else competent enough, and I don't want to have to let down these kids. But I can't stand being talked down to by someone who doesn't even comprehend how this stuff works, let alone the fact that I've already *risked my job* to get things to go the way they are now.
And if this play doesn't go well on my end of things, that'll just be an excuse for certain people at this school to petition for the title to be taken away from me, and given back to someone who generally doesn't really care and has no passion for it.
What do? x.x;
