In Australia there is a tradition of nicknames for EVERYONE.  All names are shortened unless they are really short.  They are lengthened.  Everything ideally should have an O or A added to the end.  So John becomes Johnno, any McSurname becomes Macca etc.


Alternatively a name which has nothing to do with the real name or any good reason for it makes a great nickname.


I don't make up the rules, I just play by them.
