How do/did you make other furry friends online?
« on: July 30, 2014, 11:25:46 PM »
I suck at it honestly or atleast I have recently,  I just can't find a way to make other friends online to chat, video call or art trade with, I'm just too shy and have no idea on how to do it,so any advice? XP
Looking for other  furries to befriend :) Also I make cute art and I obviously love anything cute so if you have any cute pics then send them!

Honestly I'm one of the most shy people ever, it took me a long time to start making friends and just posting used to terrify me.
For me I just started slow, posting in threads about things I really enjoyed or was passionate about, then conversations would spring up, I know it's difficult but online projected confidence is where it's at. You don't have to feel it but you can pretend.

You will find it easier to chat to some people rather than others, friendships build slowly so just get chatting and posting and things will grow if you tend them.

Good luck making friends, if you ever want to chat feel free to shoot me a pm ^^

What interests you, Celescat? Like, be specific. What do you do for fun? What kinds of music do you like, what games (if any) do you play? Do you collect anything?

One thing that helps is being more specific. For example, who/what do you cosplay as? What do you like to draw? What artists/bands are your favorites, and which consoles and games do you play the most?

Well I've cosplayed as Pit from kid Icarus,Roxas,Roy mustang just to name a few,I like to draw either fan art of shows and series I like or I draw  original drawings some containing characters/fursonas I've made usually in a cute style, tbh I don't have a specific band which I call my favorite but I do have some favorites like Michael Jackson, super junior and journey (not all my favorites just some);I collect consoles and such so tbh I don't have one I most play rather than games I most play for each one,an example would be bayonetta on my xbox 3,uncharted on my ps3 and super Mario 3d world on my wiu

Believe it or not, I met one through an online dating service, and I wasn't even looking for a furry friend, either. He and I have hit it off real well, and we both hope to meet up some day real soon (he's in the U.S. and I'm in Canada). I look forward to that. I look forward to making even more friends online too, or even in person.

I seem to notice artists tend to have frenemies rather than friends. I think this is good because it makes the artist a bit competitive which helps them improve. Though to find an artist seeking and at your same level may be something best created by hapchance of making acquaintance at art school. I think because most artists get lonely that's why many make emotional or provocative art. The funnest artists tend to be extroverted if not a bit trollish which I have a hard time keeping up or dealing with, myself. You may just smooth in with an artist, though, but yoi have to be in the right place and at the right time, it also means you have to seem interesting to each other - artists seek inspirations / idealism, after all. I'm no expert but this is my observation, I think it's worth noting but don't letit set you back. I, too would be interested in the same thing actually but lately I've spent more time on people than learning art and I'm a newbie x3 I wouldn't want to hold you back with my skill level, you seem very talented.

Do you feel drained talking to people for long periods of time? I think one great cause of shyness is commitment fear so if you do have this you are perhaps seeking for an ideal friend subconsciously, and someone like you may be equally shy. Shy people looking for shy people I guess isn't very promising, as for thsoe who aren't shy... most may have already gotten wrapped up with an art group. Shy artists may contribute unique or well-meaning art to get noticed. It's trickier if you aren't a full time artist, I guess. Though if you persist you should be able to get someone good you are looking for. I'd recommend Skype as opposed to large anonymous/open/room chat networks, large networks tend to hold more sporadic people who are more into what they seek socially than getting to know someone for visual art (seeking text vs pictures). Most socially successful artists I have noticed seem to use Skype and deviantArt. Good art and offline presence can also be a great attractor for others, artistic peristency means you will always have something to share, offline presence means they won't be afraid of you vanishing into non-existence like plenty internet users do.

As for non-artist friends, call and video call is something many prefer of others with trust, or depends how open and outgoing the person you talk to is. For an artist is actually a lot easier to draw and talk than draw and type, anyway. Quite a large proportion of furries are shy, very introvert or reserved in general too, others have low esteem and some are just simply anti-social.

All the best.
Hope this helps.

Yeah this actually this does help (atlest with getting a new perspective, just incase I didn't draw my profile pic that was made by a friend for me I'm also still a "newbie", I seek to improve and I have been little by little. Since I'm starting to go to college/university for digital animation I'm bound to find atleast one there but I'm not really as interested in that as I am to improve in my art, though if I did make an awesome friend that be neat! I do tend to be shy but honestly I have a hard time befriending other furs because I don't know what to ask or how to make up a conversation out of nowhere,as for making art that is inspiring or "idealist" I'm far from it, I might have the ideas in my head but not enough artistic skill to put them into fluition. Tbh I seek friends who can tell awesome/intersting stories, friends with quirky personalities that I can video chat with sometime; but anyways here's my FA so you see what I mean by newbie. http://www.furaffinity.net/user/amethyststar/

@Amethyst star:
You seem like quite a spontaneous person to me. In creativity I do not generate ideas but rather work in service to a general idea, then work on details and often I get stuck there by losing the bigger picture. An idealist is pretty selective with the people they want to know, but I'm fair certain most here are idealists anyway, it's quite an element of being into furry.

I think art is a thing to be enjoyed, a communication, there is no master of art only a master of craft, only the results demonstrate it. You can be a one hit wonder in art if you take others' perspectives as a measurement of how good an artist is and you can be bad at the craft you employ as an artist and be appreciated as an artist each time. If you're interested it's quite worth studying the topic of "Visual Thinking", to learn a craft for art is merely practice while communicating this thinking and your ideas through it. In some it is more natural, however. Be a free thinker, but found your strategies well and you should easily become a good artist with time and motivation. I hope to, myself, my personal issue is being meticulous vs nebulous.

You'll certainly find many quirk personalities around here.
I, myself, just kind of change, I have several egos and not in a RP sense.

I hope you get what you want ^^

:'( Sadly, the friend I spoke of has broken off all contact with me without explanation. One day we're talking and enjoying our time together, and the next he deleted every one of his accounts on every social network that we chatted on. I don't know if it's because he was afraid or because of the distance between us. Because he broke off all contact, though, I don't think I'll ever know the answer.

^_^ Happilly, though, I've managed to make new friends on here, all of which I hope last a lifetime.

Still, I want to meet my furry friends in person. The difficulty lies in the distance between us. Because I really don't know anyone from my area, meeting another furry in person might be something that will only exist in my dreams.  :'(
