The most acute terror you've felt
« on: May 25, 2014, 04:51:52 PM »
So, a scene I plan on writing soon is going to be characterized by fear. Not anxiety-fear, or worry-fear, but heart-stopping, paralyzing dread. The most unadulterated fear thinkable. However, I have no experience with this type of fear, and I'd rather like to write it well. So if anyone would share their experiences with the feeling--not necessarily the context, just how it felt-- that'd be great.

Whenever a bee/wasp/hornet is near me, I have that. Pure dread, especially when I know it's close but I lose sight of it.

Okay so to start this off, I have a history of hallucinations, so it was not a ghost! lol
I suddenly woke up in the middle of the night, my mirror was pitch black and there was tons of black smoke just engulfing my room. I have never felt the intense amount of fear I felt at that moment. My heart was beating extremely fast, it felt like it was going to explode. I was also shaking and breathing extremely heavily. I remember having a hard time catching my breath, like someone was choking me or something. Next thing you know I slam my head down on my pillow and fall asleep like a baby lol xD

Seriously though that was freaking terrifying.

I believe in ghosts too, I've seen them.

First time, I had stayed home from school because I wasn't feeling good, and was laying on the couch watching The Price Is Right. I happened to look up at the ceiling fan and there was a tiny solid white humanoid hunched over and it looked like it was running in place real fast. Then it looked down at me and jumped up and disappeared into the ceiling.

Our apartment is haunted, often about 1-2 am wen I get home from work, and I go to the litchen for a soda or snack. I turn off the light and a small ball of light will travel at high speed from my room which is across from the kitchen and travels across the living room, turns right and zooms towards the wall and then hovers back and forth over the night light if it's on.

I had a stressful day. It was meh, i was shouted at, and poeple were angry. I went into my room, curnled in my corner, and silently stared at the ground, almost crying. Then my blood FROZE as i swore i heard a growl. I stared at the ground still, in terror, afraid of what i would see. I took deep breaths, and decided to calm down again. PLugged into some msuci. THen i screamed as somthing as if BEHIND THE WALL jumed out and tugged my shoulder. I swumg around to hit it, and i saw somthing shine, maybe outsid,e i dont know. But i never saw or heard anyhitn again, and had a mental breakdown.
Sobbing, shaking, pleading for an angel, god, anything to save me.
This was 3 or four weeks ago.
This has not happned again, but somtimes, i feel like im being watched.

When I was little, I once had sleep paralysis. I didn't realize what it was until just recently. In fact, it may not have been sleep paralysis cause I remember peeking out the window.

Anyway, to the story: I was little, like...somewhere between 7 and 13, I can't remember much from that time. I was trying to sleep and this...what I assume to be and aircraft passed over making the weirdest, most unfamiliar sound and I was too scared to move. I don't know why, but I was terrified beyond words. I had this weird psychotic paranoia about extraterrestrial researchers who were gathering data and for some reason the idea of them watching me just freaked me out to no end. I want to call it a nightmare because I was so far from reality. I was conscious, but in pure, irrational fear. The idea of what freaked me out so much isn't even scary to my normal mind.

I honestly don't know what happened but it was scary.

A friend of mine has a giant dog that occasionally appears to her. Scares her every time, but we're pretty sure it's a guardian, even being as terrifying as it is.

I had a dream where I was chained, on fire, and dragged to hell from war torn cleveland Ohio, and everyone I knew walked on. I yelled, but nothing happened. Then there was the crazed demonic laughter. As for when I'm awake, I suffer from OCD and depression.

Wanna know how it feels?

Imagine washing your hands to feel like you'll live, being afraid to be around people, uncontrolling of your thoughts and feeling so hopeless, you just try to sleep.

Then there's my horrid past... But that's over with.

I spend every moment in my life terrified that someone/something will kill me. Touch a battery? Wash your hands. Someone looked at you mean? They want you dead. Lock the door? Do it 7,000,000,000,000,000,000 more times to be sure so someone doesn't steal the only remnants of happiness you ever had.

Wow, I got a lot off my chest there. (WAIT. this ain't the rant thread X3 )

On a somewhat lighter note

Apparently when I was three I was playing in a park and a boat horn blew really, really loud. I was so scared I, this is according to my dad, leaped into the air over a metre, into my dads arms and stayed hugging him for 15 minutes straight xD
