Everybody thinks I'm dumb/a screwup
« on: November 27, 2013, 04:47:42 PM »
I'm willing to admit I've done some stupid things in my life, but who hasn't? My big problem is my natural tendency to be a klutz and screw things up. I also don't really speak out loud a lot in public because I get anxious and stutter. Because of this people treat me like I'm not smart enough to be their friend or have an opinion. I don't think I'm a genius, not by any means, but I'm certainly not stupid. Whenever people are discussing complex concepts and I voice an opinion I always get the "shut up, adults are talking" treatment. The only people who seem to treat me with any degree of intelligence are my roommates. I even once had this girl believe that I had Down's Syndrome in high school. I'm not sure if I come off as unintelligent to anybody, I mean I think I'm at least above average, but who doesn't think that they're extremely smart?
Like I've said before, I also have the natural ability to screw pretty much anything up. I have absolutely no talent whatsoever and I always make mistakes that nobody else makes. For example, at work last night I was slicing up pies and I pretty much made a mess of it, so my boss and coworkers laughed at me. Another time I was trying to mix waffle batter and of course Drake the Screwup is the only person to ever accidentally turn the mixer to 10 and get drenched in waffle batter. Got made fun of again. Everybody at that job thinks I'm incapable of accomplishing simple tasks and I've often overheard them making fun of me behind my back. I try really hard to do things right, but I guess I'm just not as good as everybody else.

And the fact of the matter is that I can't do anything right. I can't draw, write, I'm barely able to do basic calculus, I was voted the worst player in the high school marching band for 4 years straight, I was kicked out of boy scouts because they got tired of failing to teach me badges, etc. I don't see what I can do or where I can go when I have absolutely no value.

Wow. You are good at writig ng that rant at least. Instead of  Mmneah...ing about it, try to embrace it, though do NOT make yiurself a joke out of it. Try, for one day, not to care if you "klutz", and not care if people laugh at you.even if it might be a fake one, smile. Dude, your awesome still. People to this day mumur ariund me "is tbat kid retarded?" And treat me like i'm stupid or soeth8ng. I just made friendsjust by introducing mysekf to thenerds of te school, and now i have great friends. I bet, soneone like e, will understand. How you get seld confidence is, to me, caring a little less, and maybe think a little. Less before you speak. If yoy get embarressed, Laugh it off, smile. The decision is yours if they are laughing at, or witb you. I am the laughinstock of my shooting club at the olympic trainig center, but i pacticed, and started laughing with them, then i started getting first place. I was really bad atit when i started, but now i am so clumbsy, and i still get the first place. You can do it!

I have multiple misspelins and errors due to me typing on a tiuchscreen keyboard.

So, I dunno enough about your life to say where you have talent, but I did want to mention something. You are upset about this, or upset about life  in general, you've been quite upset lately. There was a period before this where you weren't upset, you seemed confident, and happy and didn't appear to fail at anything really then. But now that you're upset, you feel you're failing at everything and you feel you failed your whole life, but if I had talked to you when you were happy, I'm not certain the response would be the same.

You see, when you're upset you tend to focus on all the negative aspects of life, which makes you more upset. It's a self-defeating loop and it essentially means "when you're sad you think of sad stuff", this happens with everyone, not just you, but I've seen it and observed it happen with a lot of people. The question is, did this sad stuff cause you to be sad? Well, some of it probably did yes, but in this scenario I think you being SAD has caused you to think of all the sad stuff that has happened. In which case it's important to realize that you are focusing on only the negatives, just when you start thinking "I'm such a screw-up, because I didn't cut pies properly" maybe realize that "I'm only focusing on the negatives" and a positive is "I actually have a job and not only that, I haven't been fired from it, I'm not under probation of any sort and so forth" If that is true, then your employer obviously doesn't think you're a screw up. Same thing with the intelligence thing "People don't consider me intelligent, but that's focusing on the negatives, the school system assures me I'm not unintelligent because I graduated high school and I'm in college, something that a lot of people don't even get to!".

So just remember, you're focusing on the negatives because you're sad, remember that there are positives as well, you just need to try and focus on them. It''s hard to do but just keep reminding yourself (don't even question it, you can I mean, but just try and remind yourself constantly either way) that you are only focusing on the negatives, that you are saying "I am focusing on the negatives" and perhaps then you might look for some positives.

yeah to be honest that's probably what's happening but the fact of the matter is that my life hasn't been going too well for the last two years for a bunch of reasons. I can focus on the positives but I also can't ignore a lot of the hard facts. I'm pretty much seeing the results of not being good at anything ruining my life and it's kind of a hard thing to ignore.

Oh KangaDrake!  *foxhug* don't sell yourself short.  Just getting through a run of bad things is an achievement.  Once you get a chance for surviving in style instead of just surviving you'll find you have resources in yourself there were being used but become freed up.

Don't worry if you feel clumsy sometimes, that can come from a gentle nature and you've got the rest of your life to graceful and refined (if you happen to like that sort of thing  ;) )

I'm sure better times are ahead for you.

Remember history is full of people finding out what they thought was wrong.  So if everybody thinks your dumb it's just a matter of time until they find out how wrong they are!

I'm with Trixsie on this Bro. Even I or other have their own screwups. Not everything flows down the same river.
Im bad with words, i'm doing the best I can.
You have hypothetically been my brother up here since i've known you,
and in that still continuing time period, you're still my bro.
You just gotta try to see or move past the pain.
As 'long as i've known you, you haven't messed up on anything yet! ;)
I haven't seen you make a bad move either. Your writings are actually good too though.
There are others here who can and will agree, not because we're being nice, but because it's our true and honest opinion.
Also because we're your friends, and friends are honest with each other.
Life has a stupid way of working sometimes but there are ways to enjoy it.
please try to enjoy it. Honestly, you're not a mess up, It possibly just feels that way for you.

My Kangaroo Fox Brother, we're all here for you. It's not all bad. :)

Me has hard times with other people too... bad times, jap, but everyone is subjective and methinks you should keep in mind to maintain a positive self image.. what others think is not important.

We are all individuals with a particular set of qualities and we do not require approval from other people to be ourselves -hugs-

It's not at all stretching the truth to say that Einstein could have fit this topic or that far too many great painters could as well. Sometimes we don't get the right audience to show our colors to.

To answer your note of unachieved success, that could be easily accredited to improper teaching techniques. Some people will learn one way, a majority another, and a minority in several others. The best thing a teacher can do is to ensure that all people are stimulated in the learning environment and learn the way they can; I have had several friends who simply cannot learn from one teacher, but the moment they are switched to another with a better understanding and care for students are suddenly top of their class. I strongly encourage you to continue trying. Maybe what you have tried isn't what you're good at. There's too much to this world to simply call someone a general screw up. ALso, I suggest reading this(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_multiple_intelligences). It always helps me remember that there are different kinds of smarts out there and different ways to teach it. I hope it helps. Feel free to talk to me any time, but I might not get to you immediately, as I don't stop here too often anymore.

And on the side note of screw ups, they are not something to be ashamed of. We all have those everyday. I still can't cut a pie properly and I've tried it dozens of times XD I'd be glad if I knew how to use a mixing bowl, I still use the old school which or a simple egg beater. I've popped a tire my first week driving by hitting a curve and the list goes on and on. Just remember that we each have screw ups and sometimes there's no way to do it right for myself unless I'm shown how, and even then things can get goofed up.
