The genus is the scientific name for a family of an animal type . For example, the otter genus is "Lutra" but there are several different families like the eurasian otter which is "Lutra lutra" or the hairy nosed otter which is "Lutra sumantra". *looks back at what he typed* yeah I think I did way too much research when picking my fursona species
