Salutations & Farewells
« on: February 12, 2012, 12:54:19 AM »
Ok. So I love languages. Let's see how many greetings or good-byes, "how are you"s and "see you later"s, we can post in other languages. Only a few rules apply:

1. Try not to look it up. Post one you already know.
2. Try not to repeat one that has been posted already.
3. Only one greeting, good-bye, "how are you", "see you later", etc. per post.
3. Finally, put the English next to it so we know what it says :P (Pronunciation might help, too).

I'll go first:

до свидания (Do svee-dan-ya) Good-bye in Russian

Je ne suis parle francais.

That's all I know in French. It's meaning is close to "I don't speak French", but the grammar is probably terrible. :/

I used to be able to say "greetings, my friends." in Swahili, but I've forgotten. There are other phrases I know, but I can't call any to mind.

Aside from not using a "ç", the spelling is perfect for the French.

And while I'm at it: Эдраствуйте (Zdrast-voi-tyeh) Hello in Russian. Rather awkward to say at first and I don't know the best way to spell it out phonetically >.<

God dag = Good day (used as a greeting or farewell)
Ha det bra =  Take care. (literally = have it good)
Hvordan går det? = How are things?

All Norwegian.
