xbox controller on pc
« on: April 10, 2011, 07:03:14 AM »
does anyone still use their xbox controllers for xbox? or was i the last person to make the change?
the controller works for 360 now that it has standard usb end as well.
i used joy2key for the keyboard mouse emulation so i can use it on any pc program
if you do this, dont mess with the bulge on the xbox controller cord, you want to leave it intact
the reason this is so easy with these controllers is, the four controller ports on the xbox are modified usb ports and the xbox itself is a modified pc running a celeron processor.  it's possible to make an adaptor to allow plugging a jump drive into the xbox controller port for game saves etc as well

what game would this help you play most?

are you talking about the Xbox 360?

if so the 360 uses standard USB 2.0.....and you don't need to make an adapter or anything for a USB flash drive...all you need to do is plug it into your 360 and go to your Memory and format it to work with the 360...the biggest USB stick you can use though is 16GB as that's all it'll read.

and I use my wired  Xbox controller no problem on my PC....games just detect it as a joypad or whatever...

I said "xbox" for the old machine and "360" for the new machine.  The old xboxs did not have a standard usb port, the physical port was modified to prevent use of usb devices though standard usb functionality can be gained with more than one method.  The old xbox controllers dont work without drivers that windows doesnt have.
Corded xbox360 controllers however, do work with windows without doing anything beyond plugging it in.  The wireless one is capable of being used with pc with the use of a usb receiver available at retail.

The reason for using joy2key is so i can use the thumbstick as a mouse and set the buttons to be certain keyboard keys and play games that dont support gamepads such as World of Tanks or Command & Conquer: Renegade

Rude After-Thought: The fact i mentioned making an adaptor for a jump drive should have clued you in to whether i was talking about the 360 or old xbox.  I'm sorry but i had to say it.

P.S.: nice forum avatar
