An artist/dreamer trying to be social...
« on: March 03, 2011, 05:02:39 AM »
Hello all!

I've been a furry since some time in 2003, when I was in High School.  I was much more social then, but I miss hanging out and talking with people on the net.  I have my group of friends, but I don't get to do much that's "furry", and it's really nice to have a larger community to talk to.

I've wandered around for along time, with various characters and usernames, but I tend to get shy or embarassed.  Part of me really wants to burst with life and fun!  While another part doesn't want to hurt anyone, or be hurt - by misunderstandings or differing opinions.  It's pretty much impossible to avoid, I know, but so often I find I'd rather leave than be confrontational.  I need an alternative that allows me to still be social!

Anyways, this looks like a very friendly community, so I thought I'd spill my guts and see how you guys take me.

Aside from the aforementioned aversion to conflict, I think I'm really easy to get along with.  I prefer to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, never insult anyone intentionally, think logically and keep an unbiased opinion, but not push people.

As for more about me...

I'm an artist, I want to sell commissions, and be a graphic designer, though I haven't pursued this yet.  I do a combination of raster and vector art, each one with a slightly different style - due to the nature of vector art, those pieces tend to be more cleanlined, sort of mac-glossy - whereas my raster art is more free-flowing, sometimes a little messy.  I'm working on improving my character art; faces, angles, and poses...But I also do a lot of imaginary landscapes, usually dream imagery.

I'm really into dreams, dreamworlds, and world creation.  I dabble in programming too, as I love *exploring* worlds and want interactivity.
I also tinker with music, but I don't have much completed, and am not happy yet with the quality of my work.  It's not my main focus, though.  My primary focus is art.

As for characters, fursonas...I've had a good few over the years, but my last one was a fox tinkerer from a fantasy world.  Aside from his interest in building and tinkering, there's two special qualities to him:  he can change minor properties of his shape and coloration, and he has a stone which can transport him to different universes, which I used for entering a few MUCKs.

I chose 'mulchardude', an older username of mine, because I'm not sure *what* I want as my fursona.  I've always played around with characters and personalities both for fun and as a tool, and was in a drama program for awhile.  But I take character creation pretty seriously, and I usually keep my characters' history intact, even though I've jumped back-and-forth to fill in the timeline before.

Anyways, there are threads for that sort of thing already, I think my intro post is long enough.  So, hello!  I want to get involved and stay social.  On that note, any advice is welcome.  ^_^

Wow, fast reply!

I *do* have an FA, but I haven't updated it in awhile.  I suppose it doesn't hurt though.

I also have a lot of random images here:  http://www.dream-camera.com/images/
It's just a folder, as I haven't done much with the site yet.

Welcome to Ze Furry Forum, I'm also new here so there's not much a newbie can say to another newbie.

Can't really say what I am since I don't have a fursona... yet. ;) (and probably not soon because I never did furry art)
So, hope I'll get to know you better from time to time.

Signed, GMan.

Thank you all!

Hi GMan.  I may be new to this forum, but I'm not new to furry.  I *know* you don't have to be an artist - it's common due to the nature of the fandom, but the fandom itself is about interest - both the creative and social aspects.  Whatever you can and want to do that's furry, basically!

You also don't have to have a fursona.  I've known a number of people who are into the fandom, like discussing anthropomorphics and socializing with other furs, but never roleplayed, and don't have a specific character, or even species figured out.  Some people like the alter-ego, some people just want to be themselves.  And pretty much everything in-between.

You might often get asked 'So, what are you?' referring to your character's species.  If you don't have one, no sweat!  You're just you, human, however you feel like saying it.

But if you *want* a fursona...well, there's all sorts of ways to decide.  I think there's threads for that, though.

So anyways, thanks, and hi!
