without the benefit of reading everything else here, i'm gonna post my opinion. sorry if i directly get in the way of what someone else has said. it's my fault for not coming online here for a while;
the reason that people celebrate and broadcast the fact they're gay/bi in such a way is because it's a form of identity, very similar to the way in which many furries broadcast being a furry by hanging out in animal costumes, or the way a fan of a particular band will display it by wearing a t-shirt with the name and logo on it. yes, sexuality is just sexuality, but it can (and often is) be a form of identity too. i personally don't see anything wrong with that. yeah it gets on people's nerves but i personally don't see any problem with that either

don't get me wrong. i am gay, but i am *far* from wearing gay pride necklaces and screaming "i'm a homo!" at the top of my voice. i don't get involved in the gay scene at all because i don't think it represents what homosexuality means to me. so i identify as a homosexual in other ways. this is actualy a problem i have with quite a few furries i've met is that they don't identify with *anything*. i used to think that identifying with something held you back, but after meeting a lot more people i've come to the conclusion that we as people (and especialy 13-25 year olds) need something(s) to identify with in order to maintain a healthy mental state of mind. weather it be to a certain sexuality, love of a certain band or type of music, race, culture, sport... anything really.
what i do have a problem with however;
when homosexuals who positively identify and shout it out from the rooftops then complain when they get mocked or persecuted against. my personal viewpoint is that you deserve whatever you can't handle if you do that sort of thing. most of them *can* handle it (obviously when mocking and persecution becomes serious homophobia it crosses a line and becomes a different long post in a different thread) and take it in their stride... however there are a select few who will complain very seriously about gay jokes. clearly without the knowledge that when they complain it makes people (in 100% honesty, like me) want to carry on. these people, and there's no better way of saying this, need to harden the **** up, or stop screaming their sexuality.
i apologise if someone takes a contrary stance and i don't reply... i've been very lacklustre with forums recently and the best way to get a response out of me would be through IM.
