Sexuality - It Should Be Only That!
« on: September 14, 2010, 10:43:01 PM »
I'm worried about posting this on here...

Well, I have been irritated by this for a while but had been holding it back until I saw an example of it in the most unexpected place. That was the last I could take...

I am tired of gays and bi people showing off their sexual choice! I have absolutely NO problem with their preference, what I don't like is that so many of them have made it into some sort of fashion! What the hell?

So many people at my school have been doing this stuff. They cover themselves in "YAY FOR GAY" stuff and show it off. Why can't you just be gay and.... just be friggen gay? Is wearing that stuff and shouting your orientation all the time REALLY necessary? I don't think so.

And I've seen it on these forums, too! (That's why I didn't want to post this on here :/ )
I keep seeing people put big bright pictures in their signatures saying how they are bi and such. Every time I see those I sigh, facepalm, or growl in annoyance.
It doesn't matter if you're bi or gay! Just be it! It doesn't make you special or awesome.

Oh, I'm straight! I can wear straight pride stuff! But I'm not going to, because it's just my sexuality and nothing more!

Please don't misunderstand me here. Again, I have no problem with being bi or gay. Hell, I used to be bi until I realized I was attracted to guys much more than girls. But I never showed it off for the same reason I don't show off my heterosexual-ness now.

Huh, being bi is fashionable now?
Well... I now have something more to brag about.... But I will not brag.

I feel EXACTLY the same way. A few months ago I went to Disneyland and it happened to be Gay Day. Everyone was wearing shirts that had pride stuff all over it. It made me mad too. It would be like wearing a shirt that says "I love ice cream!!! Ice cream lovers unite!!!" I'm bi and I think that pride stuff is a bunch of bull.

Heh, I would NEVER wear a shirt/apparel that says anything like that even though I'm Bi but lean towards guys more.
I much prefer to keep it to myself unless their a friend or if someone asks.
Besides rainbows are kind of gaudy, they look good in the sky not on apparel.

So I'm going to have to just say that I also agree.

Well... I sort of agree, but sort of don't.

While I do agree it can be pushed so far that it's annoying, I don't think there's anything wrong with someone wanting to indicate that they're bi/gay. It tells people something about you. You don't have to keep telling people you're bi/gay over and over because they can see for themselves, and people don't have to go around whispering about it because they wonder whether it's true or not. Drama drama drama, blah blah, etc.

When you first meet someone (if you have no obvious reason to think otherwise), chances are you assume they're straight. Don't you think it cuts out some of the crap if you can just say, "Hi - just so you know, I'm gay, let's move on with our lives"? Not to mention it makes it a lot easier when you're trying to find a same-sex partner, because there isn't exactly an over-abundance of them usually.

I do hate it when people feel they have to shove it in your face, but I believe there can be a happy medium where you can show it without making a big deal out of it.

Good point, Zeph. I just think people should bring up their sexuality when it's necessary, like in a conversation relating to it. That goes for all of them, including heterosexuality.
Gays, bisexuals, and straights are all equal to me. I don't believe one can be special due to their preference.

Well I think I might have to partially go back on my "I agree" statement, as it was rather hasty.

While I do believe that it is polite to not mention anything about your sexuality unless asked or if they need to know, this is my personal belief and I will not push it on others EVER.

The other reason why I partially went back on my agree is because I also believe in our (U.S.A.) constitution and all of its amendments quite heavily.

Yeah, I guess it doesn't matter. As I said it just annoys me, but people can do what they want. I was a bit angry at the time I wrote this... I really wish I kept it to myself. I feel mean. >_<;;

I think most of it stems from persecution to the gay/bi communities. There are a lot of times that gay folk are treated unfairly, such as marriage and it effects aspects of their lives. Having "Gay Pride" as a slogan is more of a show of defiance to the masses that they will not be kept down by their choice of sexuality. Its taken to far and in some cases it draws more hate then there might of been previously. Regardless of its annoyance they do struggle in a lot of places to be accepted. Popular media does not help this at all by using slanderous gay stereotypes. Even the furry community suffers as a whole as furry is often held synonymous with gay people. (And sometimes bestiality but thats a different story)

If they weren't so persecuted they probably wouldn't have a reason to have to throw it in peoples faces so much. After all you don't really see people wearing, "Straight Pride" shirts and thats because its held as the acceptable sexual orientation by the ignorant masses. People should not hold themselves by what the masses think, as the masses also tend to think being a gangster and objectifying women is cool. (CLUE: its not) Thats not to say some gay pride folk don't take it extremely too far. Like any group of people you have your extremists and you have those who aren't. They often segregate themselves more by flaunting it then they would if they just acted like a normal human being.

My personal opinion is one best keep that pride crap out of my face. If you want my respect you'll not earn it by making yourself a banner. Shoving it down people's throats does not, to me, signify any sort of self confidence or pride but a need to force acceptance. Do you think by flying the "Gay Pride" banner your going to make people understand you for who you are? All your doing is creating a stereotype that people are going to find obnoxious. People are going to compare that stereotype with being gay and in the end your creating more problems for yourself then you are helping. Acting like a human being is the only way to be treated as such. You can be happy about who you are without making a ridiculous scene about it.

This isn't just limited to gay pride either, furries are notorious for it too. Same goes for religions, politics and race. Everybody loves to segregate themselves in an effort to feel special when in reality they are a detriment to the unity and evolution of our species
