People think I'm misanthropic.
« on: August 18, 2010, 06:21:20 PM »
I like drawing animals, and I like drawing mythical animals. But sometimes I get asked why I don't draw humans very often. Whenever I tell them why, they assume that I downright hate humans, which I don't. They also assume I hate humans whenever I tell them I prefer to play a game that doesn't star a human over one that does.

The reason I don't draw humans very often is not because I hate humans. It is because non-humans have more visual personality to me. Non-humans fit cute, awesome, freaky, and other roles better than a human can. Sure, humans beat non-humans in the "attractive" category, but that's because I AM human, so of coarse I'm going to find a human more attractive than an animal. Pretty much any other type of look, non-humans are better at it to me.

As for video games, again, it's not because I hate humans, not at all. It's because when I play a video game, I want to play as something other than what I already am. It just seems cooler and more interesting to me. I don't care if my character is a generalist, in fact, I'd rather it not be. These reasons are why I have more fun playing an average video game staring an animal than a really good video game staring a human. Even then, games staring humans still provide plenty of fun. Some people may consider it "escapism" but personally I can be human all I want in real life, and it's not "escapism" to me, cause I don't think I'm the character in the video game, it's just a preference.

On one last note, people also think I'm misanthropic because I like movies like Fern Gully, Once Upon a Forest, Battle for Terra or Avatar. But when I watch those movies, I pretty much ignore the fact that humans are portrayed as evil at all. And besides that, in every one of those movies I mentioned, there is one human that actually helps the non-humans. The token human happens to be my favorite character in 3 of the 4 movies(In Once Upon a Forest, the one human only had one scene, and that's when the mole (Forgot the name) was caught in a trap and the human released the mole. That was near the end of the movie. And we didn't even get to see the guys face).

When asked why I rarely draw humans... I whip out a page of my practice sketches... They stop questioning and then ask me to draw another cat :P

I know it would sort of be a bump, but it's kind of on the same topic, and I don't want to make another topic about it.

Anyway, I was thinking of making a stamp on DeviantArt saying "Human Lovers Annoy Me." What I mean by that is NOT someone who is married to a human, a man who loves a woman, has kids, or anything like that, that's all well and good. By "Human Lover" I mean someone who hates anything that's NOT human, or at least acts like they do. Basically I am peeved by stamps that say "Animals are not smarter than humans." Well yeah, I know that, but you're acting like animals are brain-dead. Also there's this one group on Deviant Art with a slogan of "Kill All Non-Humans," and you know something, I facepalmed 50 times at that. But I'm afraid that if I post a stamp, the ignorant people who think I'm misanthropic will think even more that I'm misanthropic, even if I say that it is NOT a misanthropic stamp and that it does NOT mean I hate humans, and that it only means I dislike those that hate anything not human. What do you think I should do?

Weird thing is that I don't have too many people asking why im not drawing humans; but instead why I draw so many humans wasting away, committing suicide, or wallowing in hopelessness. It's just my form of art. I don't hate humans or myself but I just think that it's a neat form of art that should be explored from a different perspective. I think the idea of death, decay, and hopelessness can in some way be turned into something beautiful. Yeah, they're just sketches but it makes a lot of people do a double take on my work when they're walking by.

I have another secret...I CAN'T draw furries if my life depended on it...Shhhhhhhhhhh.

Don't tell anyone.

Some people ask me that. When my friends ask me I usually explain nice and calm.
When some jerk starts asking me and picking at me, saying all mean crap and stuff, here's how it goes.

Mean Person: *random crap nonsense followed by a string of curse words*
Me: Do you want me to break your face or something? Leave me alone. *back to drawing*

But with my friends, I just explain that I like drawing lots of different stuff, and that the whole anthro drawing thing is more challenging to me. I mean there are quite a few things on there that are hard to draw and waaaaaay different than a human. (i.e. the FACE!!!), for whatever reason.
Same thing with people that ask about why I draw goth-lolita dresses.
Except my response to that is "One day I want to sew my very own goth lolita dress! They're cute~"

I'm a devil, but I'm not bad most of the time. Okay I'm only bad some of the time. Okay maybe I'm bad all of the time. ;D

I have the same problem. My mom's all like "Why don't you draw some people for a change?"
But the truth is that I'm borderline misanthropic, and humans have caused more pain in my life than anything. Not to say that all are evil because I have friends that arn't animals, but goddang! Humans can be a bummer sometimes.*

Letme tell all ya'll a story...

Once upon a time, there was an artist... A darn good artist. His name was Aldolf Hitler. He loved to paint scenery more than anything, and all he wanted was to go to art school. He was denied entry to the school, and you wanna know why? Because there wern't enough people in his art. So he set his sights on "purging" the world, and has become the most infamous guy in history.
Lesson? LET PEOPLE DRAW WHAT THE FLIP THEY WANT! DX

*"Human" encompases the human race, not just non-furs

Eh I draw people, but I draw cats WAY more often. If I do draw a human it is going to be a human neko.

I draw anthros the entire time I'm drawin anything anatomical( having to do with the body, or something like that). But I almost always draw what reflects my mood. Which doesn't really change by hour or minute or stuff. I'm either hopelessly depressed or insanely happy for some reason. I hate it when I can't draw scenes of death and things because my friends are around. But whatever I do draw I always get asked " whats with all the furries?" then I just use me and my two , neutrally positioned on furries, friends joke kinda thing and say " u should probably ask Carson he can give you a better answer" then he says " u should be asking mack, I don't know what he's talking about" then Mack says " you should ask Jacob he's the Expert" then it continues. Good times. Good times
music is my emotion. im so flipping confused, i cant even tell what emotion im feeling at any given moment
