Help!
« on: March 28, 2010, 04:14:26 AM »
Ok, so my mom is super christian, she has told me before that if I was gay she would kick me out of the house, and I would be on my own. I'm 15, and earlier today she borrowed my laptop. when I got it back, my download folder was open, and a gay furry pride picture was highlighted. What should I do?

If she saw the picture... there's not a whole lot you can do but tell the truth. And you know, the way Christians are supposed to be kind and compassionate at heart means that kicking you out wouldn't be a very Christian thing to do in the first place. Don't try to tell her that her beliefs are wrong, just try to make sure she stays or becomes calm and understanding about the situation. You're her son. The least she could give you time to talk it over.

(This is of course just my opinion... I can't guarantee what will or won't happen since I don't know you.)

It's trully upsetting a parent would go as far as kicking there own fleash and blood out on the street all because of there childs sexual prefrance is not up to code in there line of views of how there child should feel and act towards the same sex. I could say many things here about what you could do, or not do, but frankly none of them could really help. If this is how you feel towards the same sex, then it's in no one's right to change those feelings to make them feel at ease in such a time and age. Although same sex relationships are getting less greaf, those whom have grown up in the age that same sex relationships are the mark of the devil are still intuned to such hatred towards such an aspect, but only because thay them selves where taught to hate such an aspect.

So, it's safe to say if she has found out. Don't make such a big deal out of it. Remeber, it's not your falt to feel the way you do towards the same sex, and it never will be. Nore is it anyone elses falt for that matter. I only say this because most parents who find out that there child is gay is due to falts of there own, and not the child, but in all reality... the child is the one to be questioned. Not as the accused, but rather how this person has fealt towards the same sex for years gone by. My mother is gay, and although she married a man in her time and had three kids, she really never fealt atuned to such feelings towards a man, thus the reasons to why she married him was because being gay. Male or female, it mattered not was looked down upon. This is the kind of crap gays are restricked to in those days, but now it seems gays are given more free range into days world, but... there are still some who uphold the idea if there child is gay. Thay are on a one way ticket to hell, thus are scared for there childs condamned soul, so... please be aware of what your mother is going through. I'd say more, but I will not touch religious aspects and bring them into this matter... for it's a touchy subject to many... even in the furry community, which is thrown off by the fact of what there into and doing to start with. >< *Laughs*

It sounds like you're in for a long, uncomfortable and probably very upsetting conversation. This isn't going to go away overnight, but I'm sure you're well aware of that. Don't forget that you are loved, whatever happens.

I was lucky to go to schools that had lots of support for GLBT youth; Youthquest! and Gay Straight Alliance being the most active in the Vancouver area. Gay Youth Links (link) has lots of links for groups that may have professional youth workers working for them that can help you through this uncertain time.

Be strong and do keep us posted. *huggles*
