Segas New Console: The Sega Zone
« on: February 02, 2010, 08:30:49 AM »

No leaks, no rumors, no teasers, no frustrated execs. Apart from revamping the Mega Drive in 2009, it seems that Sega has successfully kept itself under the radar about their plans of going back to manufacturing consoles - that is, until now. Electronics news blog Pocket-Lint has the goods on what appears to be the new Sega console.

t's called the Sega Zone, and it will launch along with 20 classic Sega titles, plus 30 more for added kicks - all from the publisher. 16 of those will be motion-controlled. For that, the package comes with two black Wiimote-like controllers with pretty much the same function.

While it's a console in the strictest sense, it doesn't appear to be a legit entry into the 7th gen war, even with its blatant Wii-ness. The Sega Zone is to launch this summer, priced at about £50, or almost US$ 80.

That looks awesome, I would probably buy it because I am obsessed with Sonic games and Sega itself :P. I have all of the sega consoles up to date except the Saturn because that was out of my reach when I was a kid, but it didn't last that long anyways unfortunately. Anyways this product doesn't look like it's a first of a kind either, I'm hoping it's not just a cheap emulation system like the ones you can buy on www.play-asia.com

However if we see stuff on these new wireless consoles like Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic CD, etc I will definitely not doubt the ability of it :P.

LOLOLOL its like one of those sad A/V games you buy really cheap and get bored of quickly >.< , i still love my saturn :3. stuff making a new console Sega should make a sonic adventure 3 both 1DX and 2 battle were my favourite games because of the chao and in 2 connecting a gameboy advance to your gamecube and transfering it over.

but i think sega is to busy making games for its partners to even consider making a "proper" console anytime soon
dont click my pet!!!!

i was here FIRSTer...ish!,and will throw cookies at your face at will :3

i dunno how i got him....but i do, and ill always be grateful for him...

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is my all time favorite Sonic game actually. Although, I haven't played any of the newer games like Sonic Unleashed and so on....

I just hate the fact they are copying the Wii so closely. The Wii Virtual Console has Sega games you can download, although you use the classic controller for them, not the Wiimote, but still... Then you have such games like Sega Megamix for the Wii/PS2/3/XBox, so many people may not care to buy this if they already own one of the other three major consoles, which most gamers own at least one of them by now....

It seems just like a step forward from their handheld megadrive. Not a big surprise but a nice toy.
"Parents always think kids are wasting their youth, and always have done [so] down through the millennia," says Tom Forsyth of RAD Game Tools. "'That Ug, always holding things. His front paws will develop in funny ways. Why can't he walk on all fours like normal proto-hominids?' And so, whatever the kids spend the most time doing, that's always what parents think is a waste of time, and what is corrupting their lives. It doesn't matter what that is. If all they did was homework, parents would be worrying that their kids aren't becoming well-rounded people. And, in fact, parents do this - enrolling math nerds in karate classes and the like. There is no way to win - parental paranoia ensures that kids are always doing the wrong thing."

I looked into this "Megadrive" that they said "Sega" released in 2009 and it wasn't by Sega, but it was approved by them. A 3rd-party company called Blaze that only sells in the the United Kingdom region naturally made portable handhelds that emulate some of their games, but it was by far not a perfect console :S. Should still stick wtih the Sega Nomad if you want true accuracy of emulation on portability or use something else like a Sony PSP or GP2X.

Not that I'm complaining really, I just feel disappointed after searching about it. I hope this Sega Zone can do more than just classic titles :P
